Did not work as I wanted it to.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did not work as planned. The 4GB version plugged in and worked. Unit would not recognize the 8GB version. Disappointing. My problem was not solved but I may be able to use the 8GB unit on something else.

Couldn’t use as hoped.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good value and good capacity, but I couldn’t use it with AirPort Extreme as a backup for my whole system which is all non Apple. Works ok attached to one of my computers in the network, so still worthwhile.

OK
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read that this has such a great hard drive in it and maybe it is, but I can't tell when using it. Seems slower than others I have used. It does have a power light on the front so I can tell when it is on and when it is in use.

External hard drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's an external hard drive. It hasn't been in use long enough to prove if it's a gem or a Lemon. The next thing is "would I recommend it" and the response is how can I with so little time having used it. So no.

Never buy this product.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After three months of owning this product, the hard drive stopped working, as I was unable to load any of the information on it. I own a MacBook, and the hard drive always has problems ejecting as well. It is an absolute nightmare to work with, and as a someone who uses this for business it is terribly inefficient to use this product. After taking it into the Geek Squad, they decided to replace the product (I had paid for the 2-year protection plan thankfully, otherwise I would have been stuck with the loss and had to pay for the new device; however, I did have to pay for the geek squad service). The new device had the exact same problem after 2 months. I’ve had my MacBook checked out and there are no issues with it. I’ve also owned a WD Passport hard drive and have had the same problem. Moral of the story is, stay clear of this product if you want your and your clients’ information to be safe, want to avoid a headache, and want to avoid wasting your money.

WD External Hard Drive
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is definitely not easy to use. My old HP external practically set itself up. This WD device is not user friendly.

Good drive but initial issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ran the short smart test and it passed but failed on the long smart test. I repaired the bad sectors but hopefully this isn't indicative of long term health.

Personal User
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use a Mac computer. I could not get the hard drive to erase and re-format for Mac. Only when I connected it to a Mac with an older version of the operating system would it allow me to erase and format for Mac. Thank goodness I still had a Mac with an older version of the operating system on it! This will force me to reconsider which external hard drives I purchase in the future.

Not what expected
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive is not what I thought it would be. I had a Seagate external drive 5tbbtgat died after 9 years of service. Found this drive,it was the size I needed. After using for awhile I find it has major issues with connections. Keep hanging, have to wait for it to wake up even though I have sleep turned off. Transfer speeds are very slow compared to my old drive. I might look into a different drive all together. Not happy with performance. I don't think this drive would last like my old drive had.

Bad Drive for MAC
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to Best Buy to purchase a Seagate drive but instead I got the WD_Easystore 8tb drive which was just about the same price I wanted to pay for a external hard drive. I purchase, install it and formatted the drive for my IMAC. I also loaded the discovery app software. In testing the drive, I copied a file on the drive but I wasn't able to move the file, copy it, or delete it in the trash. I started getting Error "the operation can't because an unexpected error occurred(error code 50)". So I decided to remove the WD_discovery software and reformat the drive again. I copied several files and I was able to delete them. Then I decided to copy several folders with pictures, movies and etc on the drive. Each picture in the folder was corrupted. I spoke with WD support and they only told me to reformat the drive and try copying the data folders on the the drive one at a time. And If the problem continues to call back. I have had the drive since 8/6 and I'm stuck with a drive that doesn't work on my IMAC. I don't feel this drive is safe. I need to copy over 5tb of data on this drive in folders, subfolder and files and the best I get from WD support is to copy each folder one at a time. ...HELP!!

Poor Design
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This fell on its side one time because of poor design and broke. I'm glad I did not trust it to store anything important. Complete waste of money.

Annoying sound force me to return
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a fan of WD and have several MyPassport drives that are very reliable. I wanted to get all of my content onto one massive drive and this one was perfect for the job. After plugging in for use the first time it was making a very loud annoying sound. I did some reading about it and found that this is the typical sound of a drive getting ready to crash. I could take no chances so I returned to Best Buy for a full refund which they gladly gave me. Not recommended.

very slow read write access
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.very very very slow. . . I own quite a few external drives, for backup purposes. All of them have delivered satisfactory and acceptable performance; except for this one, and a similar model 12Tb WD Easystore. Initial use was OK. Writes and reads were at acceptable speeds. Then drive got slow. It is only about half full. In Win 10 Pro, did a 'scan'; "no problems". Then did an 'optimize' (defrag). It took the drive a couple hours to analyze, and almost a whole day (22 hours +) to do two "consolidation" "passes". Repeated the 'optimize' next day; same results; had to leave it run overnight. Win 10 always reports the drive as 0% fragmented, but it's not. Older similar size drives I own from WD and competitors will do the analyze in a minute or two; and complete a couple of defrag passes in under 5 to 10 minutes. Drive is not acceptable, and is unusable for its intended purpose.

Slow, but works as intended
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have not been using this long, but so far, so good. The transfer rate is fairly low, but that was expected. I got a great price on it, and could not pass up this much storage for the price.
