This is a great drive, which I use to backup my NAS server. It doesn't appear to run hot for me, but that may be because it's only doing incremental backup. All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase.

    8TB WD RED DRIVE!!!!

What is not to love about this. These externals contain WD's NAS RED drives. Depending on if it is from Thailand (256mb cache) or China (128mb cache) it is an amaaaazing buy. If you were to buy these as internal drives they cost almost $100 more. HEADS UP: If you shuck the drive you void the warranty but I have never had problems with these drives. Talk about a SUUUUUPER buy. Perfect for PLEX server.

I bought this to use as a media server. So far it has worked flawlessly. The price is excellent for 8T and though I'm not sure it is a "red" drive...it seems fast, reliable, and suitable for my needs.

The good. These hard drives work well when they do. Bang for buck, it's one of the better deals. These fail less than the Seagates. I consider this model at a higher standard than most other brands aside from Hitachi/HGST. Performance is good. Data speeds are fast as long as you're copying large files. The hardware itself rarely fails. I've only had one hard drive fail hardcore out of 10-12 of these backup drives in the last 8 years. So, I'd recommend this drive. Now for a short story: Ok, so I've bought about 6 of these over the last 4 years. Out of the 6, 4 worked and still work. I bought 4 from BB and 2 elsewhere. I was lucky because I had 2 fail rather quickly. The first one had errors in the copied files when I checked them right after the back up completed. The data on the second one, after 3TB of data was copied to it, disappeard and Windows asked to "repair the volume", which it did and recovered the data. Turning it off then on, it happened again and this time with permanent loss of data. Fortunately, it was only a backup and I just returned the drive to BB and they replaced it with a new one. BB was really good at exchanging both devices with no hassle. Great experience. I highly suggest to buy these hard drives from BB and not other online retailers to avoid handling. The new ones worked great. By the way, on one that I bought which worked fine, the SERIAL NUMBER of the hard drive did NOT MATCH the serial number on the box. That was interesting. I still don't know how to handle this but...I guess the serial on the hard drive matters mostly to WD if problems arise. So...I just thought I'd mention this in case someone out thre experiences a similar situation.

These drives are good for backup. However, the one that I got clearly has one of the noisy and hot NAS type drives that uses more power. I have taken the drives out of a few of these in the past for use in my DIY server but this one with the hotter drive stays as external.

I have another WD 3TB external hard drive that I used for 2-3 years before filling it up with family pics and videos. It worked great and still does. I read reviews on this 8TB unit and the internal workings are listed to be state of the art and very dependable. I was hesitant to get 8 TB but the price was so good that I couldn't pass it up. It has worked flawlessly so far and should last me a long time with that much capacity. Well pleased with WD products. The customer service is super, the few times I have had questions about the unit.

I got this during the sale for $139. I’ve been trying to decide on buying this for a year now and jumped all over it during the sale. Only problem I had is that I wanted to install internal any my bios just would not recognize this drive, no matter what I tried. Not the drives fault since it is external... Just disappointed. I already recommended to a friend and we both purchased at the same time.

Initially purchased a WD 'My Book' drive for myself two - three years ago. I was looking to protect all my files to prevent lose from a computer failure which happened to me several years back. So when this WD 'Easy Store' was placed on sale I purchased it as it has larger capacity than my WD 'Book' moved the 'Book' to my husband's computer and all is good! I'm old school not a big fan of the 'Cloud' for me this is a great backup drive fast and plenty of storage capacity at a very reasonable price would recommend to anyone in need of external storage, who like me isn't a 'Cloudy"! am

This external drive brings down the cost of storage to the point where you can keep all your stuff plus some. Creating a system image or using the WD backup software enables you to keep multiple backups. USB 3 is the only way to go for high speed transfer.

This drive is a Best Buy exclusive (not available at other retailers). I use the easystore drives as backup drives for WD My Book drives of identical size. The My Book drives serve as the primary drives while the easystore drives are used as backup drives. My general experience with using the easystore drives in this fashion is good (although I have experienced recent WD My Book drive failures).

So far, I am getting good drives (8,10,12 TB) and bought them over the time. I also bought one 8TB from Amazon beside Bestbuy. They are all running great! I took out 3 of them out from the enclosures since if something is going wrong, I couldn't read it anymore when connected directly to sata on my mobo or other external reader. I think it is the matter of block writing format that WD USB enclosure is using. -12 TB I left it out as cold backup for my photography -10 TB as hot backup for my photography. I also put my daily files to the drive. -8 TB as my Linux drive for steam games and software application -8 TB with original enclosure as media files -8 TB unused for now These drives are quite. Good for backup, storing active games installation files, media etc. Whenever I need to edit my photos I move them to my NVME or regular 2.5" SSD and move them back after my edit. The curse of having large raw files from my mirrorless camera, you need large storage. I am planning to buy a 14TB or/and 16TB soon this week. I still have a lot of 500GB,1TB,2TB, 3TB and 4TB drives around from Western Digital, Seagate, Iomega. So far out of 15: -2xSeagate. One 5TB portable I purchased failed spectacularly in just short few month. The 500GB is running great. -2x Iomega. One 1TB failed around 10 years ago. I think one of them is still running but I left it is collecting dust. -The rest of the drives are Western Digital and they are all still running good with only 1/10 which is a 3TB failed after 3 years. Some of them are over 10 years and still running. It is crazy. -The last one I couldn't remember the brand but I gave it away. I wish I am getting red drive but I learned recently WD using SMR for most of the drives I purchased which is a let down. As long as they are not failing I am happy.

Grabbed this as a Deal of the Day special. Shucked it to see which drive was inside, but it was the white label 8TB, not the red. Put it back in the enclosure, plugged it in, and scheduled my backups through Windows 10. I did not use the WD backup software they offered, so I cannot say whether it’s any better or worse than Windows. As for operation, no problems. The drive runs silently in the stock enclosure, and aside from the activity light on the front, I forget that it’s even there next to my tower.
