You get a lot of space for your $ on this one. This drive is not one of WD's higher end drives though so I'd recommend using it purely as a backup drive and not relying on it as an everyday working drive.

this item goes on sale around black friday. Good when it is priced at $120 (new). I think going into 2021, the 12 and 14 TB will be more affordably priced. I've bought two 8TB and two 12 TB when on sale at Best Buy. I have heard that some people shuck these and these are the White Label drives. Good for NAS and home Plex servers. Best Buy is really great for buying many products when on sale.

Bought this to help handle all of the future 4K data that would have eaten up the 1 tb internal in a flash. Works great and should last quite a while with the extra 4tb of the same brand already attached.

This drive is great, reliable with good software included. Inside of these external cases are the NAS-rated, very well liked WD RED drives. Can't beat the nice drive, and great price/space for 8TB drive!

Drive is quiet, runs cool, and has high capacity. Performance is very good, especially considering it runs at 5400 RPM.

Decent BackUp Device Except Noise & Constant Write

This device is good for storing massive data. I tried to use it for a backup for my movies and documents. However, it is very noisy and constantly writing something even though I am done copying file hours ago. If this item suits your needs, I would say go for it.

I have another 8 TB drive from WD, so this was kind of an easy purchase. I read about (and knew about) the noise it can make, but that is a trivial matter. It is not loud enough to distract from work or pleasure while on my iMac. I have had great luck with WD products and always recommend them. This one is no different.

I would like to give this five stars. I usually have good luck with WD drives; that said, the latest run of USB 3.0 drives from WD have a known flaw in their firmware. It turns out, they are not fully compatible with older (as in, two years) USB drivers. I bought a 6tb drive this summer; it would randomly turn itself off. The only online fix was to try to find a new driver for my computer. Since the computer was HP - obviously there was no online support. So the problem was never resolved. I had hoped that they would have addressed that problem in the newer 8 tb drive. They haven't. First set of files I tried to move, my computer (an HP Envy i7 - 4th gen) lost the drive - disconnected it. Pretty aggravating - because they seem to be solid drives and the price per gig is good. Just be careful until you are sure the drive won't be shutting off on you during a transfer.

I have been looking for an affordable drive to backup all the 1 and 2 TB drives I have sitting around. This one works just the way I want it. I have emptied 5 drives to it and it is still not half full.

I have always used WD external HD's, so I expected flawless performance. I use this drive as a Time Machine (backup) drive on a Mac. After a few weeks of use, it failed to work properly, causing me to reformat the drive again. Since then it has been working perfectly -- so time will tell if it will continue to work well.

Best value for an external or internal Hard drive period. These go on sale quite often and when they're below $200 it's a steal at the price. Internally these are Western Digital RED NAS Hard Drives.

I bought this WD easystore 8TB to replace my 500GB external USB hard drive when it died. This is a huge upgrade in terms of HD capacity. I connect the WD easysotre to a docking station so whenever I plug in my 2-in-1, Windows File History would back up my working documents on an hourly basis. 8TB provides adequate capacity for my backup purposes. The black case, in an upright position, fits my working area well and does not take up a lot of space. I was lucky enough to receive the 7200 rpm HDD. My HDD is 5400 rpm. It always takes time for it to spin up for the hourly backups. The spin-up always gives me a little hiccup as I work (type, type, type) on my 2-in-1. The HDD is noisier than I prefer as it reads and writes -- but I can live with it. As a backup drive, this WD easystore serves my purposes.
