Good storage device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good price for 8TB external drive. Transfers from this drive to NAS drive over GigEthernet connection at 60MB/sec. Not the fastest rate, but still very good performance.

I like the amount of storage but
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s a very good storage system but it is slightly louder than an average hard drive also it’s a lot slower so it takes longer to transfer a files.

Plug & Play! Great way to easily store files
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this item during a sale, which makes the price per GB a great deal. I wanted to store my videos and be able to watch it on my phone. However, a NAS is required for this. I noticed that my router allows one to plugin a USB device and share the contents of that USB on the network. I had this item purchased before I checked if this was compatible w/ the router. And I was disappointed that it wasn't, and online sources say that the router only supports up to 3TB at most. Yet I was hopeful, so I transferred one file onto the hard drive and plugged it in on the router, and it worked! I was able to watch the video through the router! My TV, my phone, my other computer, all of them can access the external hard drive now. (W/ a big performance hit, though nothing to be surprised as the router isn't supposed to replace a NAS anyway) Overall, am really happy w/ the purchase, hopefully it'll last long while plugged in on the router.

Excellent Storage Device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned many external hard drives over the years. While any company can make the occasional bad unit (or develop a problematic product line), I've found Western Digital drives to be quite reliable. This one sports excellent speed and massive storage, which is perfect for backing up all of my digital content while providing plenty of room for future growth. All in all, I'm loving this drive!

Reliable, inexpensive drives
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've purchased several of the Easystore drives over the past few years for archival and online storage. All of them have performed flawlessly with no errors or problems, and my oldest one still in service is over 2 years old. I never use included software (I always start new drives out with a full read/write error check and a reformat) so if there is any software included I can't attest to its usefulness or lack thereof - sorry. However, they function just fine as "normal drives" and you can add your own encryption software as desired. It might also be useful to know that these drives do not use any "hardware encryption" - if the enclosure ever becomes damaged, it is possible to simply remove the drive and install it into another enclosure in order to recover the data. Some WD and Seagate models do "on-chip" encryption in the enclosure, rendering the drive's data useless if the enclosure ever fails - this drive does NOT exhibit that behavior, which may be desirable to some buyers. For those curious, these drives use the helium-filled design that WD acquired from HGST. Most often you'll find a "white-label" (EMAZ/EZEZ) drive, but sometimes they will contain a "red-label" (EFAX) drive. There's no practical difference in performance between the drive models however.

Great price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed the extra space and the price was great on Black Friday. I've had a computer crash and lost all my info so only use externals to store info now to prevent that.

Opened it up to find WD RED NAS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The price for this 8TB hard drive can not be beat. I opened the case with some fine pointed tools and guitar picks to find a Red NAS drive. To be more specific it was: WD Red 8TB NAS Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 128MB Cache 3.5 Inch I expect thus drive to perform like my other WD red drives. They have a fantastic realibility record both from online reviewed and through my own personal usage.

very easy to install
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this and a 4 port USB hub for my son's playstation, with this he should no longer eat up the 1TB of internet we get with cox from being out of storage on his 500gb playstation and deleting games and reinstalling games to play with his friends, some of these games are well over 100 GBs and you will find yourself having to pay overage with your internet service provider, only thing I wish is that I could plug the hub in his playstation then plug this hard drive into the hub, but I can't do that, the playstation says the external hard drive has to be plugged directly into the playstations usb, it's no big deal since I have the hub also, if you're going to buy this for your child specifically for their playstation I would 100% recommend buying a 4 port USB hub also to use to charge controllers, heads sets, cell phones, cause after plugging in the hard drive they will only have 1 USB left on the playstation to charge up stuff, the $30 4 port USB hub I also bought from bestbuy plugs into the wall so its hot all the time, you can charge up everything even with the playstation turned off, they have cheaper ones that don't have outlets and are only hot when the playstation is powered on.
