Plug and play with enormous storage capacity

I purchased this drive to organize thousands of photos from several vacations. The plug and play nature meant that there was no needed setup and I was able to quickly copy thousands of photos to the drive from many sd cards. The 8TB is a tremendous amount of storage so I'll be able to keep all my photos in one place.

The unit I received contained a WD80EDAZ-11TA3A0 drive (white-label air-filled drive) according to `hdparm -I`. It works, but runs very hot. Don't put it in a place without good airflow.

Huge Storage - Quiet & Fast

8TB is a ton of space, and great as a storage/backup device. The drive is pretty fast via the USB3 connection, and relatively quiet too. I like the fact it will auto-power off when not in use (after several minutes). The only issue is the spin-up time is a little longer than I've seen in previous external drives, but overall, it's a great buy when it's on-sale!

I've always had WD hard drives. When I saw this one on sale, I didn't hesitate to pull the trigger on it. Just an FYI for those of you who are going to use this on an iMac. I have formatted it as Journal & I have a problem with it not showing up for quite a while. I have to run WD Drive Utilities every time I start up my machine. By the time the test has almost completed.....the drive shows up in Finder. Other than that, it works fine. It's pretty quick & quiet. Can't really complain about it for the short price I paid. Maybe this issue was reflected in the price? Hmmm

I purchased this 8 terabyte external drive to consolidate my data from several 2 terabyte drives. I was impressed that it uses a WD Red drive and it is whisper quiet. Transferring data is a breeze over the 3.0 USB cable and was just what I needed.

good fast pretty quiet HDD, but for long copy using cooling pad - temperature gets high - recommended by WD 35 Celsius - get high till 45-47! .... Will not last long like that. 2 years warranty pretty ok, but I will stick with MY Book model - 3 years, just for instance. Included Software is pathetic pretty much. WD- it is 21 century already! Come on.

This is a large drive I'm using to store DVR recordings from two different OTA devices and another for online content. I haven't had a single hiccup like I have had with smaller drives just running one of the three servers. I've only had it about two months, but cost and storage is enough to recommend it. I am just going on faith that it will prove to be reliable as well.
