Tremendous amount for storage for the price. When its full, put it on the shelf and get another. I have been using WD usb 2 and 3 hard drives for many years and they have been great. No failures no problems and no reasons not to have a 2nd set of those precious photos and videos.

These are pretty inexpensive any more. The world is moving to SSD (Like me) but this is 8TB and if I wanted that in an SSD I would need a 3rd mortgage. I have 4 of these and I use them for storage. Not for constant real time access. They can be attached and always "on", but if you don't do a file access for a few minutes the platters stop spinning and it takes ~15 seconds to "wake up." That is FOREVER so I avoid it. That Sleeping may also be the software controls on my computer rather than the drive itself, but it is still a real time lag. There are work arounds (batch files etc) to keep your drive "live", but they would seem to tax the turn tables. So, I often copy the section I am working with to a local SSD drive, make my edits and then save back to this kind of spinning disc archive.

This seems like a nice drive. I purchased it for use with DirecTV for increased storage capacity.

I got these to shuck for the WD Reds inside. They ended up being two drives from Thailand with 256MB cache, which is pretty ideal. Small percentage of these were white label drives from what I saw online. Ones I bought earlier in 2017 were WD Reds with 128MB cache. More people reported that theirs contained the white label drives for the slightly newer/different SKU that's being advertised for the month of Black Friday 2017.

I purchased this drive after filling up my 4TB external drive storage for PS4. Since PS4 only reads one external drive at a time it took me 4 days to completely transfer all files to this external drive. So far there hasn't been any issue with it. I also have a 10Tb and a 6TB hard drive for Xbox One of the same brand. I definitely recommend these drives for console storage. I've also experienced weather power outages a few times and these hard drives didn't fry or become unreadable for improperly shutting down. Good value when you catch them on sale.
