I purchased this device as a birthday present for myself and I set it up very easily. Once set up, the initial backup using Time Machine takes a while (it is ethernet/Internet Wifi router dependent after all), but with plenty of configurable options and integration with the manufacturer website for uploads on the go, it is a very good idea for simply backing up a MacBook Pro. You can even enable/disable the Time Machine Backup option if you need to or just want a manual uploader. The best part is, it is completely under your control and your files aren't transferred to the web proper. You will of course, need to establish an initial administrator setting before it can back up your files to the drive and also, create an account with WD. But would definitely recommend it!

Good product I wish I had money to buy more just to store it for future

Have been looking at WD Cloud storage for sometime now. Finally went with the 4TB model. Connected up very easy. Firmware update required which took awhile but everything worked out well. the user interface of the utilities are easy to navigate through. Backed up my desktop (over wireles as my desktop lan connection is fried). This took awhile but completed successfully.

Great solution for a novice interested in NAS. Very simple to get setup and a great space saver on a budget laptop.

This unit has ample storage and streams well once you get all the settings correct. The set up needs to be more "Mac" like.7

I have been impressed with this unit. I will say this is the best bang for buck unit at Best Buy. Synology or QNAP are probably better for certain applications but this has been working great for me at home.

We bought this drive to provide a central backup and file storage device for our family computers (2 mac pro & 1 pc). Setup was smooth for the most part, but I was able to overcome the few issues I had. The only real issue so far has been the very slow performance copying files to the drive. There is a Comcast Technicolor modem/router involved; so that may be contributing to the issue. On the WD website, there is a suggestion to enable UPnP on the router, but that is illusive at this point.

It took a minute to set it up, but once it was up and running it worked like a charm. I can access it from any of my other machines, and sync all my files and folders easily. It so much easier to have a central respository to save your data when you can easily retrieve it.

It's one device that works extremely well with Mac time machine, works ok with iPhone and iPads backup and works poorly with windows, the windows software for my cloud is slow and buggy. Another issue is that is not clear when you login in to my cloud online or local account, the have different credentials and it's confusing. Over all it's worth the money and dose is job as personal cloud to beck up iPhone photos and over wifi mac time machine.

The Wd - My Cloud 4tb External Hard Drive (nas) was a little tedious to configure on my many Windows computers. Some laptoos are running WIN 10 while others are on WIN 7... once I set it up on the network to share everyone in the family was however, able to move their music, videos, and pictures to the NAS. This enabled everyone to clear their seldomly viewed pictures to the storage and free up memory without having to delete the photos forever...
