Lots of storage that's easy to setup. No problem connecting my PC with this unit. Several different software apps but not easy to figure out which ones to use and how to use them.

I love the idea, and the price. Getting the 1st PC attached was easy, second one, no so much. I'm still baffled as to how to get the Android into the mix.

It is a very easy product to set up, it doesn't always connect properly remotely, but if they fixed these quirks it would be a five star product. They also could document how to use it locally, for those people who have no network connection experience, but it does work well locally, making it quick to load pictures and other documents, Also videos are a problem when streaming remotely, better to download them and play them.

I've installed several of these as secondary backup or primary file storage for people and for the most part they work flawlessly. Software is pretty good and web interface is quite excellent. Highly recommended.

Still learning to use it and how to get everyone in my family to use it; so a little bit of a learning curve for me; but upload and download speeds are better than other clouds I have used.

This device works really well once set up correctly. Mine required a call to customer service and had to be reset to factory settings, but has run great since that time. Good simple media server.

    Poor FTP integration

I have a sort of advanced use case, but I thought I'd try out the WD My Cloud drive for my application since I had an old Seagate goflex home NAS that met the requirements, but was trashing hard drives eventually. I bought the new and improved version of the old Seagate, the Seagate Central NAS, and the Western Digital My Cloud to see if one would last longer than the other. My setup is to have the NAS setup offsite and run backups over the internet via simple FTP with a program called SyncBack which I've been using for years. The Seagate will complete backups, but the WD fails to even get through the scan of the remote site's files. After troubleshooting the failure over a week or so, I contacted SyncBack's tech support and sent them a log. They said they've heard of others having problems with the WD drive, and they said, "We've received several past tickets from users who are WD My Cloud drive owners. And very often, their issues always stems from issues arising from the use of the FTP server aspect of the WD Cloud drive (and it's usually related to simple FTP commands which are not recognized by it). A lot of router manufacturers tend to beef up their product functionality by adding FTP servers, etc to their drives, but very often, these are poorly implemented and sometimes, the firmware of the drive are not updated to fix known bugs." He said the only fix is to use a different drive, so I'm returning this one to get another Seagate. All this being said, the drive seemed to work for use on the local network via folder shares and local paths, but that doesn't cut it for me. Hopefully Seagate's solution won't trash hard drives every few months. We'll have to see about that.
