I got it to replace my aging Apple Time Capsule and it works just fine with Time Machine and Windows File History. Separating your router and storage drives is always a better idea. However, the WD Sync app, which is supposed to make this device function like Dropbox, is FAR from prime-time. It misses files that are supposed to be sync'd, it gets stuck mid-sync job and it isn't as intuitive as Dropbox is, so be prepared for some headache. Having said that, i still think its a cool concept and worth the effort if you're willing to invest the time.
