Silent backup partner

WD does not use their own software but uses Acronis for Western Digital instead. Customer support from Western Digital was top notch and was able to get me going very quickly. The 4GB RAID size is great (8GB total).

Not so good NAS

Network connections keep disconnecting after firmware updates lately. Support is useless, it's like they don't care about customers. Good luck if purchased by another customer.

Took more than 3 days to try to back up files and wouldn't. Kept shutting itself off also. Maybe I got a bad unit, but overall would not recommend it.

Easy setup with patience

You can set up access for different family members, a secure FTP location for external sharing, and numerous other perks. More than adequate for our digital photos from some 21 years of picture taking and our music.
