Good cloud storage
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with this cloud storage device. I can access my pictures where ever I am. My grandson was born this past August and I granted his parents access to an album and we are all able to upload and share the photos. It is really nice to have them all in a single location. It also works as a back up to my home computer and my phone.

WD MY CLOUD HOME
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.WD MY CLOUD HOME Great home cloud storage connected to wifi. Complaints were that you could not set up auto backup of files on your computer. Found it a breeze to do. Now i have link on three devices to put things in the files and can access from all. Would highly recommend.

Awesome
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking for a fast, easy-to-use NAS server for your home, at the suggested cost of just $150 for 2TB ($180 for 3TB, and $250 for 4TB), the WD My Cloud is an excellent choice among single-volume network storage devices.

Good price good device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The price was good and the device is good. It would be better if the software was easier to setup auto back up

Simple NAS solution, with caveats
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It technically functions. I am using it for Time Machine backups from a Mac. The permissions are very difficult to figure out. One moment I can access a file and the next I can't. The My Cloud Home is being phased out evidently. I am going to keep this because it is working for what I need it for. But I would not buy this again. I wanted a simple NAS solution and this is simple enough. I think I found the instructions difficult to understand and the website confusing. I bought a 4TB drive and I get this free cloud storage, but they aren't really linked at all and it seems random.

Can be a life saver
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great little device with a very easy to use software interface. I use this to store data and photos. I love the cloud based app and features that allow you to upload photos from remote locations. I uploaded photos while in Europe to this device in ND USA. This was very helpful because I lost my phone! without this I would have had no photos of my vacation

All Data gone after hours of owning it
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After an easy setup. I began to store data on this item. After some successful transfers, I began to move my music data and the progress halted at 70%. I waited 2 hours in the event that it was slow but still 70%. I decided to hard reset my PC. When everything booted up, I noticed that MyCloud said it was offline. I unplugged myCloud for 5 mins and plugged it back in to only see myCloud offline. I went to the box to grab the manual and to my surprise, it only had a warranty letter along with the easy setup card. I went online to see if there was a fix and I was guided to the pin resets. 20-40 secs is non-destructive. 60 is. I avoided the 60 sec reset but myCloud still showing offline. So the next part was what I didn't want to do but I had to (60 reset). I conducted the 60 reset and it still shows offline and on top, the front light never reset when I pinned for 60+ secs. If I knew that there was a button on the back to reset data, I would have never bought this, as a random stranger can just erase your stuff with a push of a button. I digress. I called support for SUPPORT but the said I would have to pay for my data back (emergency recovery can cost up to $1000) even though their equipment failed. I only owned it for a couple of hours and was met with a nightmare, (20 years of data destroyed.) This is the only review I have ever written in my life. I am so angry so I know my review might not hold weight, but I hope it makes you think about purchasing this. The item is faulty along with WD customer service.

Easy to use and a good value
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a old WD NAS that finally became obsolete, but had a very good experience with. The user experience is actually better, with great access from my PC or phone. It's quick, on my home network, I have any delay for most files, and reasonable for large files. It's actually surprisingly quick on the phone using cellular internet. I like the large drive space for the price point, highly recommend.

Great backup device, not good as media server
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially, I got my cloud hoping to use this as a plex media server, but it didn't work very well for me in that respect. Videos were buffering a lot even in original quality. But it's a great backup device, I'm saving all my important files, pictures, and videos and you have access to them via the app anywhere. As a backup device its great

Meh
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works as advertised though they are extremely limited in capabilities. These portable NAS drives have so much potential but the manufacturers limit them horribly. 1. Turn on local access and map the drive, otherwise you can only access your files by logging in through their service. There was a 10 day service outage earlier in 2023 and at least a few people lost access to their drives. 2. No way to set a static IP. By portable you should be able to plug the network cable into any computer with an available RJ45 network connector using a crossover cable, and setting the properties of the ethernet port on the computer, but no luck there. It only takes a dynamic IP so it must be on a network running DHCP. Apparently the older models had this feature but it was removed in later versions. 3. SSH access, none whatsoever. Again, was available in older models, no longer. 4. These portable NAS drives are very susceptible to failure from power outages, black/brown outs. Having them plugged into a monitored UPS to trigger a controlled power down script via SSH is an extremely helpful way to avoid hard power downs and potential hardware failure. Been there, done that. I don't like sending drives out for data recovery. See #3 above. For the capabilities above that are lacking IMO, you would be far better off building your own NAS with Raspberry Pi, some additional hardware, and free NAS software. It is more expensive, but still costs far less than paying for disk recovery services.
