Firstly, it's disappointing to be unable to access any of my 4 terabytes of content due to issues with the MyCloud. You removed the ability to access this device directly rendering it useless. These issues are beyond frustrating and cause significant disruptions in my workflow. If you're looking for a reliable and high-performing storage solution, the Western Digital MyCloud product may not be the best choice for you. With its various issues and limited features, it may be worth considering alternative storage solutions that offer better performance and reliability. I would not recommend this product to anyone and will be finding an alternative solution for myself.

Added this second cloud drive to use strictly as a backup for our two laptops. Both laptops are constantly backed up so I have that security knowing our data will not be lost. Easy setup. Does take several hours for the initial backup to finish and will depend on how much data/media you have.

    Not MyCloud

I have an aging MyCloud and was in hopes that this unit would be able to replace it. Answer: partially. Pluses: installs on a Windows 10 system easily with their WD Discovery software. Easily accessible anywhere via web access. Minuses: Not much control over how it works. On my old MyCloud I could easily access multiple accounts simultaneously with a varied set of permissions. On the "Home" you get one account at a time. On the original MyCloud you could control when it updated and whether things like Desktop Shortcuts appeared on your PC;. Not the Home. It will automatically update itself (cannot be turned off) and will create a desktop shortcut no matter what you do. So... is you are looking for something functional and easy, this works well. If you are looking for something you can control, it really doesn't. So my "no" on recommend is because I fall in the latter category. I'm still going to use it, but when my original MyCloud eventually dies, I'll replace it with a different product.

This is a really good personal cloud that works well on all my devices. I am glad I purchased it. My only down side is the Mac Discovery app, which you have to install. On a sign in to an account, it drops the menu bar item down covering other windows. I have a number of WD drives and it lists them all. Fine. But I don't want to see the window. I have found no option to silence this behavior.

It is convenient to backup photo in your own home network, but the auto backup has some issue if you have too many files. It will restart with no reason and start upload again. So you end up with duplicate. So the most reliable way is doing it manual. I.e select the photo and upload

This drive was sooo easy to setup. You just need to know how to install the app and follow prompts. It has a nice “main” user feature and you can add additional people to save or backup photos, videos...etc. I highly recommend this product and 4tb is plenty of storage for most households!

This device would be great in theory. but it simply doesnt work well. I have 1 Gbps ethernet speeds (verified) and even with my PC plugged in via ethernet and this device also plugged in (both 5e cables) the transfer speeds were aweful. a 50gb test folder I filled with video files, photos, and a few word docs transfers to my old portable 2tb drive in just a few minutes. but it took over a day to transfer the same folder. I tried various steps to help but failed. support was also unable to assist with this. also, and this is partially on me for not researching first, this device cannot plug directly into your PC for local file transfers. it can ONLY be transfered over the network. I found that accessing the files away from home was also a bit slow. it often failed to load thumnails for photos. I decided I would return it and get a standard 8TB hard drive (double the space for the same price since you loose the cloud "functionality". however, I actually have not been able to return the device yet. because yesterday western digital's services were (and still are) down. and many devices, including mine, were showing offline. and since there is no USB transfer option as mentioned, it means that I was unable to access my files. this issue still isnt resolved 20 hours later. http://status.mycloud.com/os4 you can see they have had multiple outages this year alone. leaving one to see that there is also service reliability issues in addition to the slow transfer speeds. also, note that as a network drive (and this part isnt on WD, its just information I was not aware of until I had one) there are some things you cannot do. for example. backblaze will not backup a network drive with there standard backup service. google drive will not use a network drive as a mirror device to backup your google drive. and many programs like CC cleaner will not access a network driver for functions like finding duplicate files. im still waiting for those services to be restored, so I can remove my files from the device and return it.

I wasnt able to upload photos from my iphone 15 onto this NAS device. The simple problem was the buttons were cover by the information on the top of the screen. I then wrote a nice email to the company and they basically replied saying this might be fixed in 1 to 6 months. I returned the product after hearing that. Otherwise, easy to set up if you have a bit of IT knowledge.

This is an absolute easy setup device. Work perfect on all devices if mycloud us signed in. Downside which is big for me is its network workability. I could not define a storage location in family folder. I need to have it to be accessed by my coworkers from all around state

I bought this unit a few months ago, and overall I was happy with it. However, after a recent Mac update (Big Sur). The desktop icon was gone. I figured it would be quick easy thing...As it turns out...No. I chatted in with WD tech support, and it turned into a complete disaster. They were little to no help, the kept trying to direct me to a link saying that they're not responsible for 3rd party software rather than trying to help me fix it. Tomorrow I'll figure out how to wipe this thing clean, and it's going back to the store. Western Digital can't have anymore, nor can they keep the money of mine they already have. Totall disgusted by the experience.

This is a home device. As a photographer, I want to store my raw files as a backup and then have access to them as needed which I can do on my laptop or through the App and can share pre-publication images with customers for collaboration. For the IT Techy folks, no, this is not a NAS. NAS is something different; it is a device that is hardwired into a local network. This device, as advertised, is Cloud SAN....a local backup with Cloud sharing and laptop and phone Apps, so it is not intended to be used or operate like a NAS. If you're looking for a NAS, spend the extra $200 to $300 for a NAS device and do your own NAS coding and configuration. Don't try to go cheap and then complain that it doesn't work just like a NAS
