MyCloud 4TB Drive

Good device with some software limitations
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is one of the best products from Western Digital. It is a little bulky but does the work. However, WD may look at the other software features for improving storage of photos and files. These days a lot of software is coming to manage your photos and other files and keep them organized. adding such a software with some additional money would be a great addition to this market.

DBrunatti
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. Honestly, I don't spend a lot of time analyzing it. It seems to work well for what we need. Unless a problem with it is discovered I'm happy with it at the moment.

Run, Don't Walk, Away From This!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this item to have control over my personal data, but I still do not. Even thought the device sits in your home, your authentication must travel through WD's web servers. They recently had a ransomware attack and was locked out of my data for over a week. Also, unreliable and slow when not locked out. Creates lot's of garbage, gibberish files.

Not a good backup device, not a long hauler.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was working great for 2-3 years and then all of a sudden it crashed 5 days ago for no reason. My Cloud tech support not able so far to get it restarted even with loss of all my data. I WOULD NOT TRUST THIS AS A BACK UP DEVICE SINCE I LOST ALL MY DATA. You'd have to backup the backup. Not cool.

Great product, exceeds expectations
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup was a breeze, it functions perfectly and best of all FAST! An additional bonus is I can access it with my Android phone and tablet from anywhere. Also, I have both Windows and Linux based computers an it works seamlessly with both. For example, I can take a picture with my phone and save it the the My Cloud from anywhere, then when I'm back home, load it to any of my computers to edit, then print it and save it back where I can view it on either TV.

Great at everything except what you need
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to use for backing up my MacBook Pro over wifi. It's a great concept! Setup is relatively painless, it backs up my computer every hour (I believe), but the ONE thing I really needed it to be able to do, it won't. Last week my computer totally crapped out. It needed almost all of its internals replaced. I got that taken care of, and obviously my computer had been restored in the process. I got it home, set it up for a restore from my MyCloud device... And it won't let me. In order to restore the computer, Time Machine said that I needed to log in to the device using credentials I was never asked to set. I've tried every name and password combo that I have, thinking maybe I somehow forgot my info (even though I write down every name/password I'm asked for immediately as I set it). Nothing works. I tried checking forums online and didn't find anything. I even emailed their support team last week, and haven't gotten a response. I wish I had just used a different device.

Limited Customization Options
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disappointed with the setup of this drive. Settings options are very limited. You cannot assign an IP within the drive or change the name of the drive. Also there are top-level folders that cannot be removed and the names can't even be changed. And the only top-level folders that can be added are one for each "user" assigned to the drive. I've used WD external drives for years and they were always very customizable. I'm using it since network capable drives are just about non-existent, but I wouldn't have purchased it if I'd known how poor the setup functions are.
