The first version the home cloud is better the software change a function

I really like WD and after 8 days it was great. Very easy to use w the app however when it failed to connect to the WiFi via Ethernet cable, it went downhill. Called them and they said only way to possibly fix was to do a hard reset and loss all my pictures. There’s no way to extract the pictures. If it happens to fail and disconnect or doesn’t connect at all, you are at risk at losing your pictures. Started great, now I lost lots of family pictures. Maybe reconsider or look at others. The concept is nice but I’ll look for a brand that can have a solution to recover data should the only way to access it, WiFi, goes down. Best of luck

Works well . Had a bit of trouble connecting it to the network - have tech experience.

Only way to upload files is via Windows app, not Linux friendly. Plex sever install does ok job for at home streaming of your videos. 1 stream seems all it can handle. No Ftp server installed so can not access files via Linux must use web interface.

I like the fact I own my cloud storage and don’t have to pay a monthly fee

Easy to use home NAS unit. The app for the phone doesn't always connect but easy enough to use

I don't recommend this product if you're going to use it as a Plex server, you can't transcode, and if you're going to use it with Plex amp, you can expect about 5mb/s when streaming from it. If that's good enough for you for example if you have mp3 music files you'll be all set with 5mb/s.

I purchased this item for the sole purpose of using it as a media server for Plex. The installation instructions were easy to follow and I had it set up in minutes. The only con is that it takes a lot of WiFi bandwidth during the transfer process unless you are savvy enough to know how to change LAN settings or are willing to purchase transfer cables.

I love the ability to just wirelessly transfer files to this.

I have both a Mac & a PC laptop I am using to which this product says both will be compatible. I bought it for the cloud feature because I’m constantly on the road for work & need access from my home files. So far am not impressed with this product as I’m now out of town & can not access any of the files I need. But I can access files I don’t.

This is the most horrible tech product you could ever spend money on. This review has nothing to do with Best Buy but Western Digital. I purchased this cloud storage device for peace of mind and to be able to back up my data for easy access from anywhere but that has been a total nightmare. First the device took hours to allow set up/connection to my home network. Next, the company was hacked for over a month, I had no access to my files. Not one word from Western Digital to its customers. Lastly, they have just announced that "My Cloud Home: WD Discovery Desktop App End of Support" OUT OF THE BLUES. Meaning you would no longer be able to mount your My Cloud Home device as a local drive. The main reason why anyone will purchase one of these anyway. Please do not throw away your money like I did. Do your research and find another storage device. Again, this has nothing to do with Best Buy.

Does what I need it to to do. I would buy another one if needed.

OK, up front costs a bit...but down the road this is the way to go versus the purchasing through online sources!

So my big brother recommended as an alternative to ICloud. So far I’m loving it.
