Perfect solution to multiple issues. I'm using this to backup my photos and videos automatically on my phone, it's being used as a Time Machine backup for my MacBook Pro and I'm using it to stream my digital content to devices in and outside my house using Plex.

Stil t trying to determine full functionality and all possible applications available. Does not offer clear information and confusing company websites until you realize the difference in adding the home part to the product

I probably should have listened to some of the more critical reviews when buying this item. The Good: Very simple setup for non-technical users, once you download the WD Discovery App it connects the first time. network transfer rates are speed. The Bad: 1. I lost some data already day 2 after the device updated it's software - downloaded the debug logs and it had many errors and had rebooted itself - not something all users will check. 2. WD Discovery App repeatedly asks you to share your data - I'm sorry but personally, for a device that I want to store photo's, file's, etc. on, I don't want that. I really don't like how persistent it is. 3. BIG ISSUE - the cloud login does not support advanced login features - just email/password. So definitely don't re-use passwords for this that you use on other websites or you're getting hacked, regardless this opens the door to brute force and other attack vectors. There's no challenge by location, etc. from what I could tell from using the phone app, different computers, etc. 4. You can't change permissions on this device or change the homegroup which means you have to use their app or play around with network settings to access it - there's just no way you can actually use it as an open NAS easily without using their software and for the average user they will need the software. Conclusion: I ended up returning this a few days later, it works if you just want something simple, but for me it's not very secure or open. If you Google some of these issues on the WD support site you will see it's a long standing issue that WD doesn't seem to support. Do not recommend buying.

Bought this for my wife who is a photographer and she loves it!! I do wish that it had a wireless feature to it so that she doesn’t have to plug into it every time she wants to use it.

I don't have a good insight yet on all the features but install was great and build quality seemed very good was well. Was impressed and usually that takes a bit from a tech person. Also they had a good app to connect with via iphone and that setup was easy.

Fantastic product. Value for money, The new one can be used as 100% personal cloud drive, because the n/w drive is accessible out side the home network too.

Plugged this thing in to my router in the laundry room and a few minutes later it appeared as the "Y" Drive on my home PC! Then you just drag and drop items in there which is exactly what I was looking for.

The hard drive comes with backup software that does not work with this drive. You have to find 3rd party software if you actually want to back up your computer. It kind of defeats the purpose.

Shows nothing through any of mac products, note it does work with them but cannot access any of them. Going on to WD notes (service and help with this model will not be available after #### date. Returned and bought Synology 220+ and 2 - 4TB HDD and works significantly better with RAID capabilities and can read all information with macs and time machine .

Worst instructions & customer service ever

I had a previous MyCloud so I knew what I was buying into. But this is far worse and mostly because of outdated and incompatible instructions and above all a clueless and untrustworthy customer care. A small glimpse into the state of their affairs: https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/24148/kw/map#subject1 suggests this is how to map it as a network drive smb://MYCLOUD-last 6 digits of the serial number Example: smb://MYCLOUD-123456.local. Interestingly the whole serial number is alphanumeric and last 6 characters are numbers and letters. Needless to say, this didn't work. They force to install WD Discovery, which I could never make it work on my M1 Mac, as the instructions are again out of sync and I had no desire to try experimenting with this on recovery mode. I've wasted 2+hours and that's all I'll give them. Others - plz save the pain and find anything but this. I'll be returning this.

To start, shipping was awful. It said 2 day shipping and ended up being 4+ days. It took 2 days for it to leave the warehouse. I bought this to replace my older my cloud device. Upon receiving the unit, I was excited to migrate all of my data over and start fresh, but after setting up the drive, I noticed some rather ignorant short comings. This device is not as easy to manage. Everything is done through an ridiculously slow gui. You are not able to manually map the drive to your computer without the "desktop app." I was also unable to locate anywhere to setup a static ip address or encrypt the drive. These are not necessities, just wants, so I will move on. I spent the better part of 5 hours transferring my data over to this new device and setting up automatic backups. Then found out, you are not able to just run it as a dlna server for media sharing, you have to setup plex. I went through the process to get it setup and check out the new feature, but the data would never show up on the plex web app. I logged back in to the cloud device and noticed that the plex app was disabled (on its own). After several failed attempts to enable it and reboot the device, I noticed that all of the data I spent 5 hours loading onto the device was gone and no where to be found. I will be returning this hunk of junk back to the store and not getting another one, because the usability is over complicated and the functionality is less than satisfactory for an almost $200 device.
