I was disappointed to find that a usb connection was required to use the backup utility. I was trying to avoid buying a spendy NAS. You can use Microsoft's backup utility with the drive. It was not apparent at the time of the purchase that its network backup ability was so limited. I should have done more research.

Do not purchase if you have any experience with creating shareable local storage devices. The WD My Cloud makes it extremely difficult to create and access as a shareable drive on your network, losing access often, or locking users out from directories. If you intend to use it as a cloud, understand that any files that are uploaded to the drive will be uploaded to Western Digital's server essentially eliminating the necessity of having a physical HDD on your network. Since purchasing this drive it has been a constant frustration with attempting to use even the basic function of a network drive.

If you are an Apple user with Big Sir, do not buy this product. Western Digital has not updated the software to support Big Sur and the backups are not properly being made and totally unreliable.

Easy to install and get family "connected". Price was right.

Could not get it set up. Instructions were useless beyond the physical connections (which are obvious), but there was nothing for enabling use with my laptop through Wifi. Tried to get support from WD but all they did was send me links to online articles that didn't help. Tried for a couple of weeks then gave up and returned for refund.

I think when it comes to drives, Western Digital has given the best quality and speed.

I would not recommend this unit. my cloud pulled out from WD and now I cannot access my content. This Hard drive never should have been sold

Its great to have my own personal cloud so I don't have to pay monthly fees.

I was disappointed with this product. I was hoping for a way to use this device to backup my files as well as synchronize files across multiple computers on my network. There was no easy way to do this. I returned this and opted for a simpler WD 4tb portable drive and use it for backups only.

Works as intended great network device for storing.

Great, it downloads all from your phone or iPad.... love it.
