If you owned the 1st or 2nd generation WD My Cloud and looking to upgrade to WD My Cloud Home, don't. The 1st & 2nd generation WD My Clouds are Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives that can be accessed via Apple TV or Roku device (for example). The WD My Cloud Home, on the other hand, isn't meant to be seen or used as a NAS device. It's more of a storage solution. You could probably use it with the Plex Media Server, but in order to use most of the streaming options, you'll have to pay for a Plex Pass subscription. WD should have renamed this, so as not to confuse owners of their previous versions. Too bad.

This device took down my home network at least every hour for the day I had it plugged in. Garbage. Looks nice, OK price, but I will be returning since it's unusable.

There system was down for a week with no updates and the only way to set it up is through the app which I was able to download but wasn't able to set up a login I ended up returning it before the end of the returning period, was a waste of time.

This updated device does not use the same software as the previous models and if you're expecting to just plug this device into your router you will be sadly mistaken.

Worthless piece of garbage. All I need is an external drive. I don't need any connection to the cloud. If you can't sign in to WDs website, you can't use this useless brick. They have a data incident that shouldn't affect me and yet I can't access the drive because I can't sign in.

The device itself is fine. NONE of the software works with Windows 10. Read the WD forum. Hard to believe that WD would allow this to happen...

It might be okay just for backing up photos from certain devices, but other than that, it is not usable. You cannot use it like a normal Windows drive without installing a complex series of modifications and software changes. The end result of that, by the way, is that it opens a HUGE security risk into your computer. If you are looking for serious NAS, then go elsewhere. This thing is trash designed to appeal to novice users with money to burn. I am an engineer/programmer and I don't have time for this mess.

Purchased this hoping to eliminate the need to pay for a cloud service. Took forever to get it to connect to my gateway. After hours on google to figure out the issue I get it to work but then it randomly disconnects from the network and the only way to reconnect is to unplug and plug it in again which defeats the purpose of a cloud server when you have to be home to ensure you can connect and access the files on it. Tried being patient with it but I’m returning this trash.

In short, I lost the $179.99 that I spent on this product. Between Windows and the WD independent updates, the WD will become incompatible with your windows system prevent access to it via a network share. I had mine a month before this occurs that requires me to do open security settings on my workstation that I am not willing to do. At this time, I can only access the WD storage via the web, which is not so convenient when you need to manually backup a large number of files and folders to a specific location on the device. I can't return it because I can only delete files from it via the web interference and have no access to format the hard drive, which leaves my information vulnerable. With that said, I no longer use the device in hopes that the software libraries between Windows and WD become synchronized long enough for me to format the drive to return or physically destroy the product.

My new MacBook Pro didn’t like it at all. If I tried to put more that 1 file at a time on it it would just lock up. Took it back. Worked great with a cellphone though.

Needed a new EXHD and let the sales person talk me into this HD not knowing that it doesn't work with Windows 10 because W10 doesn't allow network sharing. Go onto the Western Digital forums and read all the complaints, WD doesn't seem to care so it makes this HD useless to me. Just purchased a Male to Male USB cord to see if it would be seen that way and it still doesn't show up. If you're still running something other than W10 than you should be happy. Sadly I waited to long to get it to work so now I can't return it which is my fault.

I planned to use it as a backup drive. It took 6 days to copy a 132GB directory with photos. It started up quite fast then slowed down to a crawl (a few bytes per second). On my first attempt, I thought it had frozen. So I broke the process and started again this time I removed everything from my ORBI router - with the same result. I tried to call WD support but could not get a person, not even a chat line. Going to return it.
