Cannot seem to figure out how to set this thing up. It says it is easy, but it is definitely not. Getting it to configure with my WiFi was a nightmare, the guy on the call for technical support did not speak clearly whatsoever.

Purchased this product with a Best Buy protection plan included in my Totaltech membership about 6 months ago. As all drives can do, this one failed (power went out in our home during a snowstorm, and killed the drive) and we lost everything we had on it. Totaltech/Geek Squad could not recover our data and the quoted cost to ship it out to WD to “potentially” recover what was lost was $300-$5000! An absolute waste of money for the “protection” afforded for this product; and I’ve learned my lesson the hard way to never trust a single drive when storing invaluable data (ie my family’s wedding pictures and video). The drive itself and the software was good when it worked; allowed for effective internet-access to all of our files from our phones and computers, as well as sharing/collaboration with others on albums/folders/etc. Worked as advertised. If you want guaranteed protection for your data, though, either get a product with multi-drive backup storage, or go w/ a cloud service.

Need a new external and thought this was perfect as it hooked up to our network. Turns out, WD has many levels of quality with hard drives. This is considered the bottom of the line. Less stable and prone to failures and a hackable application. I returned.

This drive lasted 7 months before it died! Poor quality. Haven't filed a warranty claim yet because I am concerned about the security of my data, I can hear the drive spinning I just can't access it via USB or the LAN.

The device failed to function. The support was useless and suggested me to change the power outlet to fix the network connectivity!!! I returned the device and ordered directly from the manufacturer. It worked just fine!

For some crazy reason they make me get an online account and password and then when you try to use the password it won’t let you copy anything. Since I am only using this at home there is no reason to have an online account.

The only part I can write a review for is the directions to hook it up. No matter what I watched or read I could not get it setup. The device itself may have worked great...if the directions were clear enough to follow.

Does not work as a real NAS cloud drive. Very slow. Does not work with Plex or DLNA or Amazon Fire Tv.

Thought I was getting ahead in technology by getting this cloud based backup system. But it was slow, cumbersome, difficult to navigate and had poor online support. Returned it for a refund.

Was told it was easy to use by store staff... Turns out it is very complicated. Wasteof money and time to figure out how to use it via technical support.

Spent long time on phone with WD trying to set up. Never really succeeded. Returned product to Best Buy. Still trying to get rid of bits of program left on my computer.

Don't know what WD was thinking with this model. Very difficult to create simple accounts; and WD discovery has issues finding the network device. Terrible item!

The WD my cloud home is a must have for anyone with multiple devices and a lot of data, photos, videos etc. Storage has become very expensive in computers and other devices with faster SSD storage. Myself I have a lot of photos because I am photographer but never have a good place to store them. The one thing I love about this drive is that your data can be access on any computer or device anywhere. As far as setup it was very simple. Simply plug it into power and your router and then go to the website to set it up. I love how it easily integrates with Macs, PCs, iOS devices or anything else you might use. I only have one gripe about it and that is the requirement of a wired connection. I wanted to put the hard drive in a different room than where my server is but I was unable to because it does not work on a wireless connection. In addition to that it cannot be used as a standalone USB drive the only way to use it is plugged directing into your router. Overall it has great build quality and is easy to use.

Folders shared cannot be downloaded. Each file in the folder has to downloaded one at a time, no option to download the whole folder at once.

It’s probably my fault but I bought this to back up all my files before the hurricane, just in case. It HAS to have internet! I’m going to return it

The initial backup took forever, but this system made everything easier. My backup is now effortless and it also captures the pictures from my phone so I do not have to use the stingy icloud.

Not user friendly at all!!! None of my videos from iPhone transferred over, they all said wrong format, and not easy at all if you are using apple products. I returned it!

sent it back because when t tried to register it they said the serial number was not good

Don't support mp3.so no back up of Google music. Or Google music folder.so no support for alexa skill...unless you convert 50 thousand songs.so cant have alexa play music....
