Works as a hard drive. The cloud software will not install or recognize the device. Many attempts at correcting the problem. This is the last WD product I will purchase.

Magnolia had recommended this product to store and retrieve music with my new receiver but the product prevented getting to music.

Claimed to automatically back up files and photos. This product never backed up anything. Had to uninstall and purchase something else.

Bought it as a Christmas present for my SIL, she wants to upload her baby pictures without plugging her phone to the computer, it works great and she is very happy.

Not worth a penny, 3 hours later and still cannot get it to update as it says it needs or connect a second computer. Don’t waste your money!

Easy to setup and to use. Grateful to have the security of our backups.

I am impressed with the amount of functionality I got for the cost, however, I feel that it is also missing some important functionality. Here's what I like: • It's very easy to set up - it just took a few minutes • The included software (that is compulsory) is decent and seems to work well syncing data across devices. This software will work on both macOS and Windows (I have used it on macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 and Windows 10) • I like that it will back up files from cloud services, such as Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, and Google Drive. • I like the included backup from mobile devices (iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android). Here's what I wish they would improve: • It appears that there's currently no way to back up the NAS, to a USB drive for instance. • While this does support both Samba (SMB, used primarily for Windows sharing) and AFP (Used primarily for Mac), this functionality is very limited, and you are unable to require authentication to access these shares. This means that anyone with access to your Network will have access to these shares. Therefore, if you want to use File Backup on Windows or Time Machine on Mac, you'll want to make sure that you encrypt your backups. This is more difficult to do in Windows than Mac (the option to encrypt the backup is given in the Mac, but Windows forces you to create a Virtual Hard Disk, encrypt it in BitLocker (which requires a Trusted Platform Module/TPM in your computer), and create a shortcut to this in your APPDATA Startup Items folder), This is in my opinion a major downside, because in Windows, if you are on a different network and restart your computer, Windows will give an error message when it tries to mount your virtual hard drive. If they had given authentication as an option, there'd be less need to do this. • There's no way to create additional AFP or Samba shares; you are stuck with the AFP share TimeMachineBackups and the Samba share "Public" and cannot create additional shares for additional usages. • I wish that it had additional services (that add functionality) that you could choose. • A Linux client of WD Discovery would have also been nice. • It appears that there's no way to replace/upgrade the hard drive easily in the 1 HDD unit. As long as you are OK with the limitations, this device is a really good value, since a competing system from a company like Synology starts at around the same cost, and doesn't include the hard drives. I had a coupon that made this less than the cost of a Synology. However, there are some significant limitations that I hope that Western Digital will address in the future.

The product worked but not to the extent that I needed it to. I ended up returning it.
