Long Time user of Original...Extremel Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THis EASILY one of the worst products I've bought in a long time, and Ive owned the previous model for about a decade. I can't believe how badly set up their "updated" version. I'm guessing, the original designers left the company, because this is hilariously bad. With their initial version, you could plug it in, make sure its dlna compatible and any device on your network could recognize it. Now there are a ridiculous number of hoops to try to get any device (if you are able) to see it. It seems they have handed the monopoly over to Plex...and unless you install Plex, it will be near impossible to stream media from it. Sad because the original models were solid, oh well....on to the next NAS manufacturer

Would Not Receive Power After 2 months of use.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this exact model at another store. I began uploading files and within 2 months the drive died. No way to get my files. When I say it "died," it no longer receives power. The power supply has been tested and works just fine. You're just better off going with a service that has backups to the backup to the backup like Google 1 or iCloud, the latter of which is end-to-end encrypted. Either that or throw your files on a disk, which is somewhat antiquated but much more reliable than this thing.

Doesn't last long
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had 2 of these. One was a replacement for the 1st one that died. Overall i liked many of the features, but both died in less than 2 years.

Buyer Beware- don't buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had purchased the 4TB My Cloud drive. After two years, it stopped working. The app would no longer connect and the drive was unresponsive. I had removed the LAN connection from my router to the drive and tried using USB cable to bypass the cloud feature and that didn't work either. Now I have a brick that needs to be thrown into the garbage. Up until that point, it was working fine. I'm surprised that it only lasted two years and then died. I'll never buy another WD product again. Save your money and use another vendor.

Unsecured
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had one for years. It is no longer supported by WD. It is at EOL. There are no more updates. Thus no longer secure. Xfinity gives me daily reports of which except taking off line or resetting i can no longer protect my data. Unfortunately it cannot be used as an external drive by direct connection. Outside of that, it was great!

Not a day goes by that I don't regret using this!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't regret using the WD My Cloud. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone....ever. When you need your information, you won't be able to connect to your device unless you hit the reset button....which is of no use when you're miles away from your house, and if you log into the my cloud website remotely, it's says it's not secure. Every time I try to either enter or retrieve information from my device, what should take seconds (for example if it was being retrieved from dropbox), takes hours and hours of re-entering passwords, deleting and reloading apps, driving home to reset device, etc. Oh, and try to get help? HA....it's non existent! You're on your own. Save yourself....just don't do it.

Simple to setup - Complicated to control
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disappointed that WD has release a product that is not superior to its predecessor (Mycloud). Absolutely cannot access Dashboard. which makes it more dependent on the third party apps to control and stream media. While the drive do not sync up D drive. Customer care cannot figure out and asks me a question.... State the purpose for me to access the dashboard. Limited apps as well. I would wait for couple for couple of weeks if WD would makes some changes and provide more app support and flexibility in managing the device else would return the product and switch to Synology.

Piece of expensive junk!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this product approximately two years ago; it simply stopped working. Their customer service is non-existent. For some reason, it defaulted back to my original backup, and no matter what I do, it will not backup any new files (I have 83% free space on it), nor will it let me see the last two years' worth of backups. Worthless, absolutely worthless.

Waste of $
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You have to access your data through the WD servers. You could be 1 foot away from this device and it won't matter. You still have to go through the WD servers. You may as well pay for a cloud service like one drive or iCloud and it will be just as fast. and Plex on this device is garbage.

Failed within two years time, all data lost
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't buy this product. It failed, called support, useless, 45 minutes wasted, they emailed me a link to third party companies that might be able to recover the data.

No WD auto file back up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this to replace my old failing WD MyCloud device instead of the MyCloud because of the higher connectivity rate. To mygreat disappointment none of the WD backup software works on this device, even though when I contacted WD about the device the representative said they would. You have to purchase a third party backup solution. The windows backup is crude and does not provide the real time file backup when ever the file is changed like WD Smartware does on my old MyClound. Very disappointing, will be returning the drive.

Poor Functionality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No support for Windows 10, apps do not work. Need to map a drive (but can only map to Public folders, not primary user). Just discovered a 5 gb limit upload, will try using USB drive. Have uploaded data but keep finding empty folders. Have an old WD external hard drive. Almost worth just connecting that to each pc and copy what need saved.

Garbage! Lost all my files after 4 hours of use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not water your time or money! Had this piece of garbage for 4 hours before it went offline and wouldn’t come back online. Called “tech support”... what a joke! Their idea of troubleshooting was to make sure it was plugged in. After several calls and incompetent reps I was told to do a soft reset, now the device won’t even power on and all my files are gone. Their response.... to pay for data recovery and they send me another worthless piece of crap! Spare yourself the headache, DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!

Stop buying WD external drives.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sooo... This will be the 3rd MyCloudHome that has died on me, in the past 4 years. So I'm going to find a different manufacturer. This time, the drive just stopped working. The WD site said my drive was offline. I cycle the power and I can hear this clicking noise coming from the drive. These external WD drives are costing me a lot of money in replacements.

Software Installation Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Could not install software successfully. Ended up in infinite loop where software would say log into web to continue and logging into web would say run software to continue. There was a secondary software product "WD Backup" but when I tried to install it, it just said "Install Failed". Not usuable for me. Boxing up and returning.

Don't waste your money! Performance is REALLY SLOW
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to backup my laptop. I was trying to back up 30GBs of data of my laptop. They claim that the MyCloud Home 4TB has a gigabit ethernet connection. I have a gigabit router, and gigabit ethernet laptop but the files are literally copying over 85 bytes/s. More than a day to copy 30GBs is completely unacceptable in a backup solution.
