Maybe if you're a tech person
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want to solve a riddle every six months to have access to your data, then this external hard drive is for you. But the most I can do is reboot the tv and download my nana's photos from the cloud onto her computer. This hard drive has been so incredibly frustrating to use. When I first got it, it didn't show up in my devices when I first plugged it in. I had to go into the disk manager and create the new volume myself, but for real this thing was fighting me every second of the way. I'm usually pretty good at just figuring it out through tutorials online but the steps they were telling me to take were just not possible. I couldn't click on create simple volume. I couldn't click on anything except the properties menu. I eventually, and I couldn't tell you how, was able to finally name the volume without getting an error message and it was working just fine. For months it worked just fine. Then, a few days ago, out of no where, it just wasn't showing up. I restarted my computer, plug and unplug, I even went back to try to do whatever magic I did before to add the volume. Randomly, it just decides to show up again! Hurray! All my files were corrupted but it's fine, I have backups. As I am about to hopefully fix it, POOF! It just disappears again. Nothing came unplugged, I checked and double checked. It just disappeared like hey! I see you're about to fix me, wouldn't it be funny if I just- Anyway, this external hard drive sucks, it's not worth the effort. I was using these cheap ones before, sure they didn't have a ton of storage and the cable was loose so it would fall out all the time but at least it was storing my data instead of holding it hostage.

OK if you are not a novice with computers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not overjoyed with it. Mainly because the backup software which you have to download & install is very glitchy & would be difficult for someone without IT experience

Big little storage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ha, I remember when an extra hard drive with this much capacity was as big as a microwave oven. This one fits in your shirt pocket.

Stopped working.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.WD generally produces great, reliable products. My passport worked great for the first few months and then abruptly stopped. My computer can no longer detect the device. I have attempted to use the company’s support and available software to restore access, but have not had success. A recommendation was to reset the entire device, but that will result in a loss of everything saved on the device. I do not recommend getting a WD Passport if you do not want to lose your data; go with one of their other devices.

Fool Me Once . . .
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had two of these, and they both malfunctioned, causing me to lose important files for work. One lasted a couple of years, the other a couple of months. The WD tech support is awful -- basically sends you to convoluted links tha don't help. I'll never get one of these again.
