WD is among the best for external drives. To get maximum speeds, make sure your computer and cables are up to proper specs.

I had to return this. It came with three viruses that wiped out my computer programming. I never even finished the installation of the three programs that it comes with. I was 90% complete when my computer screen dissolved into flashing lines. It even took out my restore points. Fortunately, most of my personal saved data remained intact. Best Buy gave me a complete credit without question. The upside to this disaster was that it afforded me the opportunity to replace the destroyed programming with the latest versions. I now have the 2019 version of windows and the latest office suite. I subscribe to Trend Micro Internet Security and the viruses in this WD external drive took that out too. It was only when I re-installed Trend Micro that the three viruses were detected and removed. I certainly hope that Western Digital becomes aware of this problem before too many would be customers are savaged.

Good for backing up data daily, wish USB cable was longer

Sad the instructions are minimal and so hard to read. Had to go to the web to find how to install with success! Even went in to Geek Squad, had to make an appointment for the next day because they operate by appointment only????! (did the tech even understand me or know what to do?) Per the appointment with a different tech, it is backed up successfully. Current rating based on installation issues. Maybe easier for someone more tech savy!

Using as backup for an older Mac. No problems so far. Mac recognized drive quickly.

The unit tested worked as advertised in all functions. Unit tested the fastest of any external device to date. Unit is an internal format M.2/NVME drive with the length of a M.2 NVME but twice as wide. Very small and compact. Recommendations: None/unit is good as is. Heat dissipation is outstanding: At 217 MBPS unit was slightly warm. At 640 MBPS unit was very warm but not even close to hot. TEST: On an HP 590 with a standard SSD the unit transferred 188GB file at 217 MBPS . On an Omen gaming laptop with an internal M.2/NVME WD Black, the USB C transferred a 188 GB file at 640 MBPS. XBOX games played faster on this unit than the internal XBOX HDs. Quality product that is drop proof and best uses are portable pocket storage for travelers or game external game drives. Nice job WD! Love your high end products.

I had to purchase this in conjunction with a level 2 data recovery. But the recovery was not completed correctly by the Best Buy geek squad
