Installation of WD Discovery for windows

I love the fact that the size is only a little longer, wider, and thicker than a credit card, and it is ready to use without the need of formatting it. However, installation of WD Discovery for windows turned out to be tricky. In the beginning, whenever I tried to install directly from the files that pop up when I connect this WD My Passport SSD to my laptop, it always ended unsuccessful. The problem was solved when I went directly to WD support website, clicked on "need drivers, software, or firmware), scrolled down to find "Installation of WD Discovery for windows", downloaded it, and installed from the file I downloaded. Hope this can help those who has issue with installation.

    LOVE this little drive!

Good grief! I've been using WD My Passport hard drives for a decade. This is my first external SSD. I moved my Apple Photos library onto it and had the immediate reaction of "where have you been all my life?" The speed difference the added bandwidth provides is kind of unreal. And this drive doesn't even take full advantage of the Thunderbolt speeds my new Mac Mini is capable of. These little drives are great! It looks like WD may be discontinuing them in lieu of their SanDisk SSD drives. I got this one for less than $100 and at that price, it was a steal!

This WD My Passport 1TB External USB Type-C Portable SSD fits my needs perfectly! The size of the SSD allows me to easily store it in my jeans pocket or coat and I find myself toting it with me whenever I leave the house. The ability to backup my Samsung Note 20 Ultra remotely is made easier by the quick transfer speeds and ease of use with an OTG cable. I highly recommend this SSD for anyone looking for a small, simple, effective and reliable way to backup your phone while traveling!

Good small portable SSD with all the typical passport features such as encryption. You pay a little more than typical SSDs but WD passports is the higher end product (See WD element) with additional features. I didn't test the speed but seems reasonable. Still testing out. Has USB-C to USB-C connection (nice for new computers with mostly/all USB-C ports) plus a USB-C to USB-A adaptor.

Has done its job and then some! The speed is incredible and being able to hook it up to my (fantastic) android phone for quick photo dumping, or to my pc (w/ the included adapter mind you), is phenomenal... Even better when you catch it on sale. Months later and no issues still, so I'm pleased.

Works with Raspberry Pi's without hub!

    Posted .

I own a Raspberry Pi 400 and I'm using this drive to boot and it doesn't need a powered hub telling me this drive doesn't require much current to operate. Most SSD's require an external powered case or a powered hub to operate on a Raspberry Pi computer because of the limit current capability of the USB jacks. The speed is incredible with this incredible little computer. I'm using a Best Buy Insignia USB 3.0 hub on the Pi's second USB 3.0 for other drives and accessories including another 1TB WD That's almost full backing up my old HDD backup drive. Because of backups I have most of my picture and data going all the way back to my Windows 98 computer! Be smart and back up!

This is a simple to use product, just connect it to us UBS port and you are set to go, and the capacity is great. I was able to move every document from my laptop to the Passport and there was still plenty of storage space. Accessing documents on the Passport was also easy.

Was looking for a portable SSD that works over usb c with fast performance and this device delivers. When paired with a computer that supports the latest usb standards I am getting very close to the advertised speeds. It does get a little hot especially when writing a lot of data. I’m able to photo and video editing right off the drive. It works with both my windows laptop and MacBook.
