It doesn't get detected in my windows 10 PCs. I have tried on many systems but it has a mind of its own. After getting connect once, it just didn't connect. No matter what I do. I have tried connecting with USB-C and USB-2 both, but no success. Looks like a complete waste of money.

    Nice Portable Storage Drive!

The WD - My Passport 1TB portable storage drive is a great solution if you are looking for an external portable storage drive. I previously had a WD My Passport 500 GB portable storage drive that I have used for many years, but I am finally at a point where I needed more space, so I decided to upgrade to this new device. The 1TB of space gives me a significant amount of space for external storage. However, beyond that, I love the additional improvements with these new units. First, with the NVMe solid state performance, this drive is really fast! It says it will transfer up to 1050MB/s. Those numbers may not mean much unless you are comparing it to the numbers for other units, but all I can say is the speed is definitely noticeable! I can do a system backup in no time, far faster than with my previous drive. While it is great for backups, with this speed, it would also be great to use when working with large sized files or video footage that would normally take up a lot of space on a PC. The drive is really small compared to the one I previously used, making it very portable and convenient. It measures only 3 & 7/8 x 2 & 1/8 x 5/16 thick and it is very light weight. It would easily fit in a shirt or jacket pocket. They also made it quite durable as it was designed to be shock and vibration resistant and it can withstand drops of up to 6.5 feet. While I'm not prone to dropping things, it is nice to know if it happened that the drive would not be damaged and my files would still be accessible. It comes with a USB-C Cable and they provide a USB-A adapter, in case your PC does not have a USB-C port. It also comes with the WD Discovery software for easy backup. I like the fact the drive is also secure, as it provides password protection and 256-bit AES hardware encryption, so my files are protected if anyone gets their hands on it. I don't know what more you could ask for in a portable storage drive! If you are in need of an external storage device, you can't go wrong with this WD My Passport drive!

Bought this to help phone switching because our iCloud space was limited. Tried multiple times but it failed to upload data- forget about switching our phone. End up buying more iCloud space. Returned this.

I didn’t really like it. It had very slow response time for a SSD when it comes to saving. Also had a situation where it didn’t save my data at all. I was really disappointed in this device.

I used many external HD's so far including couple of WD ones as well. I never expected this kind of performance from this very little device, you will not even notice if you connect to your laptop. it is very tiny. Data transfer rate is very good, it is moving the data faster. I really liked it. I am sure you will like it and you will never regret of your buy. USB Type-C port which is very good.

    Credit card sized speed demon

The first thing I did when I opened up the package was pull out a credit card and lay it on the drive. It’s a little longer than the card but the size of this thing is surprising to say the least. Putting it through its paces as a transfer drive, repository for OBS recording, and even utilizing it as a folder container for a Premier Pro project I was working on demonstrated the versatility and it managed to impress me no matter what I threw at it. (Full disclosure: I was using a usb 3.0 port which you need to take advantage of these speeds.) It’s not often that I take a thumb drive anywhere anymore due to the availability of things like Google drive or OneDrive but this stays in my bag for those times when downloading would be spotty or I encounter files that are just too large to wait on. One of my tests was a result of building a new computer and wanting to transfer my files from the old system. There was a noticeable speed increase versus my standard usb drive when copying from the old system but I was hampered by having a standard disk drive in it as the source. As soon as I plugged it into my new computer it was literally night and day in terms of how fast the data was loaded to my new machine. This little guy is definitely a speed demon and that speed is much appreciated.

Having the option of a large storage capacity in such a small device is such a benefit. I am using this drive for storage of footage from my security cameras. This saves me a lot of money each month by not having to use the cameras' cloud system. I know that using clouds for storing data has become very popular and it does have its pluses. I'm old school though and I like having control of my data. The speed of this drive is fast. I tried it out on my laptop downloading files that had been stuck on a cloud since setting up a new laptop. There were a lot of files but the drive was able to download quickly. I really like that I can use USB C. This has become more and more common so I think it is a good thing to have. Reading through the information on this drive, I found that it can withstand drops. This is very important with a portable drive. You can password protect your important data as well. You can set it up to automatically backup from your computer. Another thing that I like about it may seem silly to some but I like the color and design of the case. I have quite a few drives that I use for different things and they are all black. One quick look and I know which one this is.

This item is very small and flat. Comes with USBC and regular USB connectors. Completely silent. Excellent product. I use it for storing important info when I travel and better than a USB stick- it has no moving parts so I expect it to be super reliable. Read and write time is very fast as expected.

This external SSD is top notch. It is small, light, and works with everything. I plugged it into my laptop and it was recognized immediately, and had extremely fast transfer speeds and worked perfectly. Then, I reformatted it to exFat and plugged it into my Xbox Series X and was able to install and play plenty of games off of it. While it isn’t as fast as the internal SSD on the Xbox it is significantly better than a hard drive so it makes for a fantastic option if you want to have something in between the cost of the proprietary expansion drive and a conventional hard drive but still provides great performance and at a lower cost. It includes a usb type C to type A adapter to make all of that possible, and since it’s an SSD it’s perfectly quiet and generates no noticeable heat. Overall, I am very happy with what it does which is what I was hoping for.

    Great Drive (buggy APP)

This things rocks but I only wanted to post to help those who might be having issues setting up a password on this or any other WD drive using the WD Discover app. Greetings! I've had issues setting up passwords on all of my WD devices...going on 5 different models over 6+ years ranging from 500GB - 10TB devices. What I learned long ago is that in order to setup the password for the first time for a new drive, you cannot have any other WD devices connected to the computer (whether they are locked or unlocked). I think it is some sort of bug with the WD Discovery app software. You've probably seen on the forums and product manuals that all you should have to do is open the WD Discovery app and click on the drive settings, then there is supposed to be an option to set a password...but only eject is there if multiple drives are plugged in. The Solution = 1. Unplug any WD drives connected to your PC (you may need/want to reboot for the next step to work) 2. Plug in the new drive (still with no other WD drives connected to the PC 3. Install the latest version of the WD Discovery app that comes on the device or simply open it if you have the newest version installed already 4. Then you should see the option to set a password in the drive settings I'm not sure if this is a problem for or if this fix will work on MACs.

I use this as a portable storage solution for my wife’s laptop. She’s a YouTuber and is constantly creating large video files that need to be saved, uploaded, and backed up. I can move hundreds of gigabytes worth of files in minutes and not have to worry about moving the drive. The drive is small and easy to carry around with a laptop. The USB adapter is ideal for use when switching from laptop to desktop. I may need to get another one just for my gaming computer...
