Very slow wireless. Not ready for primetime. Using the 3.0 USB works as it should, but this is a wireless device. Maybe the next version will be better.

Product does exactly what is advertised

I bought this product to store my music and movie library externally. Given that I use a laptop as my primary computer, I really needed an external hard drive that could be used wirelessly. This product achieved everything I needed. FYI - It connects to your computer by recognizing your home WiFi. Simply enter your WiFi password into the MyPassport dashboard screen, and the drive comes alive on your home network. Once you have it set up, leave it plugged in and it can serve as a permanent drive for your computer. I use a Mac and no special formatting of the drive was required. Great product. I love it.

    Works great!

Works great! Has an embedded Linux operating system built in that allows it to broadcast its hostname and shares so you can easily map the drive using Windows. DLNA-compatible streaming media server works great as well, although it appears that my DLNA-compatible media player built into my LG TV won't allow rewind or fast forward when streaming from the drive. However, I can use Wndows Media Player and stream from it and RW/FF work fine. Overall I would definitely recommend this drive.

Purchased this for an upcoming trip to NY so that I wouldn't have to drag my laptop with me. Built in SD card slot with automatic import sold me on this drive. Drive set up with the app quickly with no problems. Transferring files is simple and managing the folders is simple. Couldn't be happier with this drive.

Not to happy with this drive

This for sure is not plug and play. A lot of configuring, had disc errors and to run chkdsc app which found several corrupt files and this was brand new out of box. Has problems sometimes disconnecting using "safe to remove usb device" Even when plugged in to usb port computer does not always see it. After hours of messing with this thing finally got it to do a back back up but not sure how restore will work if ever needed... maybe I should just return this thing not to happy with it.

Purchased this for my grandson who is off to college this year. Additional storage for his engineering studies will really come in handy. Knowing kids, I thought the case was good protection. Quality product at a fair price.

Does not work with Time Machine via wi-fi

I bought this hard drive in the first place because I wanted to be able to keep it in my home or office and back up my Mac without needing to connect the USB cable, just as you would do with the Time Capsule. If you read the product description, it states clearly that you can use it with a Mac, a very misleading information, as it works via web browser on their own software, but not in full functionality. So now I'm stuck with an overpriced wireless (NOT) HD that won't work with my Mac.

Nice reliable external drive. I never had a problem with western digital external drives... they simply work like they should.

    Wireless Back Ups Nope

First off this is very hard to set up. You are given a lame easy start sheet that gets you going but fails to go int detail on how to really connect to your NET. To get the right info one must go the the support website and read the manual. Only then do you get a clear explanation on how to integrate this unit into your NET without it disconnecting when you reconnect to you network. Once you get that done don't expect to use it for a scheduled backup device. The only way this can be done is via a direct connection to your PC via the supplied USB cable. I had bought this to use as a network backup drive for my three computers. Sort of set it and let it do its thing. Prior to buying, nowhere was it stated this could not be done. Back to Best Buy for a refund.

    Very Poor Unit

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This was a hard drive I needed for a few design computers while traveling. From day one there were issues after issues. When I plugged the unit in to start there was only 20 gb of space on the drive. So I call customer service and I was told to reformat the drive and all would be well. I did this and it worked for 1 day. The wireless was very slow so I used this drive on Saturday via USB, came in to the office on Monday (yeah today) and it would not connect to the network nor turn on from the USB cord. now I can't get to any of my work from Sat. Over all a complete waste of 200.00+ design time and mad clients due to not getting the files that were completed on Saturday.

    Worthless for tablet/iPads

The file manipulation apps for Android or IOS are so crippled as to make the wireless useless for what they tout it for. As an example, search Western Digital Support for - copy files to my passport wireless with mycould app .. if you do get content related to android or ios ... you will not find a single article or video that discuss how to copy files to the drive from a tablet device ... suppose there is reason for that?.
