Lots of storage and easy to setup. Allows me to keep what I want on desktop cpu without worrying about space.

Nice hard drive for backups. Wish it included a case either a soft or a hard one.

Beware of this drive! I commend Best Buy for letting me return this junk and get a Seagate instead. I say "beware" because Western Digital has invalidated the backup software on all these drives. I bought this in March, 2021. Previously a software bundle was part of this product. When you plug the drive and click on the installation exe, an error message pops up saying 'We're having issues. Try again later.' No matter how many times you click on the exe later on, you get the same result. Finally, I called WD support. A tech stated that the backup software has been withdrawn by WD - evidently without telling anyone! This is why you get the error message and cannot install the software suite. He sent me a link for downloading free Acronis, which WD is recommending. However, WD's website says that WD does not support that Acronis software. Furthermore, I had to ask for him to send links for the WD backup utility suite and also for the encryption software. Net: instead of the software bundle I expected to install with one click, I now have to go to 3 different web pages to download and install the apps that WD says are bundled into the product - only the truth is that they are no longer in the product. I will never buy a WD drive again. Get yourself a Seagate on the Best Buy website.

I wish our experience with this product was as good as others. Unfortunately, it was not. We purchased two of these portable hard drives in late September. One of them was used for our children, to store videos and other files for them to use. However, one month into usage, before we got the change to fully back up the data, the portable hard drive ceased to work, only making a clicking sound when the drive was first plugged in. We contacted WD and they only said that they would replace the product. We would have to find a 3rd party to retrieve the data and pay for it out of pocket. We had a similar situation last year with another company and they had us ship them the failed hard drive and they retrieved the data, rebuilt the portable hard drive and gave us a 2nd portable hard drive, all for free because the failure happened so quickly after purchase, and that portable hard drive was cheaper than this one. I am definitely NOT going to buy a WD product again.

Drive will not show files. Cannot open the drive. It just keeps loading and spinning.

I just bought this 5TB WD My Passport external hard drive on 10/2/2020. It stopped working on 11/6/2020. Just a couple weeks after I could still return it. I thought it may have been just an issue with the connecting wire because if you wiggled it you could get brief connectivity. I took it to Best Buy to be properly diagnosed and they told me that it was in fact the unit itself that had broken. The only "option" they gave me from there was to send it in to have the data retrieved for an additional couple hundred dollars. It is now a $160 paper weight. Great job selling "quality" products and protecting your customer's purchases, Best Buy!

It comes at 4.45TB, this got me really mad... Why WD want the expense of .54TB on me not on them, they are the manufacturer, it is cheaper for them to give me full 5TB than me taking it. Why it is me paying for that difference. WD, really you could not put extra space on this!! Alos, What is the minus 500GB is for, where it did go?

This lasted 14 months and died. My computer can no longer mount it, there’s no way to address it. It whirs and makes noise, but it’s dead. In 30+ years of using computer gear, this is the worst piece of crap I’ve encountered. I wish I had read the other reviews saying exactly what I experienced.

Absolute trash. I never dropped it once, barely even using it because the sectors on it went bad in just about a month or two. You're better off getting a different brand like seagate

This failed within the first week and all my files are on it and I can't get them off.

Died within a month - Mac OS - used for complete machine back up - 2nd one to go - don’t waste your money on WD

it crashed so i did not like it this made switch to a ssd card
