I bought this for a backup drive using the Acronis True Image that was provided with the drive. I did the first backup of my confidential data, and the next time I powered up the computer the drive clicked three times - looking at the drive on Windows the files were still there so I thought it might be ok. The next time I powered up the computer, it clicked 3 times. So I used Drive Utilities that came with the drive, but the drive was not listed. So I went back to Windows and tried to create a text file on the drive. It responded with hardware error. If I had not done sleuthing it would have been another week until the next backup to discover that the drive was really not working. To shorten the story, I couldn't return the drive for a refund or replacement because it had my data on it. I had to buy a new drive to complete my backup, so I am out $$ for 2 drives. Neither Best Buy nor Western Digital would give me a refund without giving them the drive with the data on it. To ensure the privacy of my data on the drive I have to destroy it. Purchasing this drive has proved to be a negative and costly experience.

The product is fine, but I'm disappointed because I asked the customer service person on the phone for a drive pre-formatted for Apple. It was not and it was not an uneventful process to get it formatted correctly. So my disappointment is with Best Buy for the unnecessary time and aggravation, not with the product itself.

Easy once I got the right unit. During my first visit the attendant gave we the wrong device, I notice it before I opened it so took it back and ordered the correct one online and picked it up when I took the wrong one back. All is working well at this point.

I was looking forward to having this 5tb external HD, but due to the covid health issues, BestBuy was exemplary in working out delivery issues.

Excellent Option for backup and price. Isn't the fastest drive but will get the job done. I'm using mine as extra long time term storage. Con, I couldn't get the encryption working on this drive. Might not be supported.

This is my 2nd WD My Passport purchased, works perfectly after 3 months, USB 3.0 speeds are phenomenal after coming from an old USB 2 drive.

Had to reformat after loading some pics. I'll be really upset if it happens again after I delete all my pics off my phone. I purchased this to store my pics safely!

It met my needs for migrating files from old computer to new one and providing back up hard drive

Good,problem free Hard Drive. Good value for the price.

Hard drive works well for backup but not the fastest so probably 5k RPM drive motor. Would be nice if they gave specifications of drive but I just wanted it as a backup so no big deal.

I was saving my previous files before resetting my laptop system.

There wasn't a manual or directions on how to set this up, but the Customer Service department walked me thru the entire thing.

Exactly what I needed! Works quickly and efficiently.

I have purchased 3-4 of these over the years and have had zero issues with them, which is why I bought another one. I can't even use it because it is making me download a program on my computer to run it, then it has made me download two other separate programs for whatever reason. Even after going through all of these ridiculous steps, it still isn't letting me put anything on the hard drive. I have never had this issue before, and I have never had to download anything before other than the WD discovery app, If I buy an external hard drive, I want to be able to easily save things to it without having to go through a million steps, and this is not that. I wish I was within the return timeframe because I'd like to get my money back, but I'm just going to throw away this piece of junk since it doesn't work.

it's a standard harddrive. it's pretty quiet, you wont really notice much from it other than it works. the write speed is fast
