The WD hard drives tend to be more robust and run faster than other brands like seagate. I will always go for the WD drive.

The drive needs to be formatted to NTFS AND FAT to be able to use in mac and pc. Other than that it’s great ssd

I have owned many external drives and currently have 4 Toshiba 4 TB drives. I purchased this WD 5 TB drive on a whim because BB had it on sale. I have used it as a backup drive for the last 17 months. It stopped working on 5/27/25 and now when you plug it in the system doesn't recognize the drive at all. Tried different cabling and wanted to format it but none of my computers recognize it. Thought about exercising the 3 year warranty but they are only going to replace the drive and at this point I will stick with my Toshiba's that the oldest is already 6 YO. I don't trust WD products, had a bad experience many years ago and obviously nothing has changed.

Its fas and only thing is if you are using this for music not so good you need something faster

Western Digital has always been one of my go to companies for storage. While this device functions decently, the software that can be installed to use with this product is useless. Depending on your computer, it may have issues reading Microsoft Office documents directly from the drive. Id like to say this is a computer configuration issue, but it is simply the vendor accepting the manufacturing of poorer storage standards these days. Drive will store youre documents, but nothing special or great about it. Would rather look around at other drives in the future to avoid the bloat and document reading errors.
