Works as advertised except it says it has password protection and even my IT contractor who helped install it could not find it.

Great harddrive but it isn't compatible with the new Apple M1 processor. I had to return for that reason but otherwise I love this product.

Make sure to back up. Mine lasted about a month and a half. For no apparent reason I could no longer read any of the files on it. Attempting to do so would lock up my entire system. I'll update this if the warranty experience is pleasant at all.

Be careful not to lock yourself out! You have to delete all your files in order to unlock if you can’t remember your password.

The size of the drive is a value, but unfortunately WD does not supply any back-up software. The only current system is for Me to drag and drop. NOT good. The did send me to their web site for a back-up package, but it doesn't function on Windows !!.

Drive crashed within an hour of use. I've always sworn by Western digital drives but this one took a dive almost immediately and started clicking internally

I was hoping for better. The first drive I bought was corrupted. Best Buy easily exchanged it for another. The 2nd almost works. The drive connects but does not provide me with any options or a menu to work from. I was hoping for auto backups or something to help move files from my desktop over. So I don't know if this also is corrupted. In the past I have used Seagate backup drives without problems. I am NOT convinced this is working at 100%. Will not buy WD again.

This hard disk suddenly stopped working on my Windows 11 laptop. It could no longer be detected on the Windows Explorer and it says uninitialized under Disk management. I have so many important files in this drive that will get erased if i initialize it. WD Support was of no use to help with either data recovery or providing me a full refund of the faulty product - they just do a replacement of another similar hdd. I already tried all their suggested troubleshooting steps and it did not help. I will have to buy another expensive data recovery software to recover my important data from the hdd.

Had no issues coping pictures into the WD My Passport 5 TB external USB 3.0 portable hard drive. Unfortunately, when I purchased a new hard drive I was not able to open the pictures from the WD My Passport

I wish I could give it a zero. This is the 3rd (and last) portable WD drive to fail within a year. This one didn’t even last 24 hours before it stopped responding. I’ve since tried connecting it to 3 different computers, but just like the other failures, the light blinks, but nobody's home. Don’t waste your money!

Failed After Just A Couple of Days

After doing a test on the drive for a couple of days, when I wen to actually use it, it failed. Windows would not recognize it. I was able to recover it using the windows utilities. My complaint is not just that the drive failed, but WD was of no use in getting it working again. After some bad experiences with a couple of MyCloud dual drive systems -- not so much with the systems, but with WD support for the product, I have started buying non-WD products. I am not throwing the company out completely, until this drive, I had always found their drives to be of very high quality.

Bought this to replace a 6 month old WD external drive that failed after light use. First use of this drive, picked up drive with thumb and one finger to slide it and my laptop over on table while transferring files. Slight pressure with thumb and one finger was enough to flex/compress the outer case and immediately heard grinding in the drive. Drive destroyed. Run away from WD external drives. I have some that are several years old and work, but their new ones seem to be complete garbage.
