Item works out of the box, but proprietary cable!?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this item to backup my 2012 MacBook Pro before transferring all of the information to a new MacBook Pro. It works right out of the box, no special downloads required. I plugged it in, opened Time Machine, selected the WD drive as a backup drive, and it backed up my computer without issue. Unfortunately the My Passport drive does not use an industry standard microUSB/miniUSB cable. Instead it is a proprietary cable that I have never seen before. Why companies insist on doing this baffles me. Hopefully I never lose the cable, or, worse, it stops working in the future when I need it to restore my files. Other than that I am happy with the drive, but be aware of the potential issues with the cable.
