Nice hard drive!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thing you need to know about this drive is that it is very small. Not that I would expect a portable drive to be big, but it is much smaller that it looks in the photos. Feels solid and it is very quiet. In fact, if it didn't have a little indicator light that glows when its plugged in you probably wouldn't know its running. The inclusion of both a USB and a USB-C cord is nice and should make it compatible for most. With it being pre-formatted for Mac, it was plug & play with my Mac Mini. I'm using it as an automatic backup to replace my old backup that bit the dust (it wasn't a WD :-) ). All in all, it's a great little drive that you can easily carry with you, or plug into your desktop and forget it's there.

Not really good
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I brought this to back up all my photos. It was great at first but now it doesn’t work. After I uploaded a few pics, it stopped working. It was a bit pricy to not work.

Works fine now
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There was a malfunction with mine. Had to call western digital and clear the hard drive completely from the command prompt. Took about an hour. Haven’t had this issue with other western digital hard drive.

Unreliable and unpredictable!!!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the three weeks since I installed it, it began giving me "failure to back up" notices. I followed instructions, ran Disk Utility First Aid and got it fixed at first but then it failed again. Next day First Aid fixed it, then failed again the next. It is definitely unpredictable and unreliable. I believe this drive is defective so I am returning it. I had purchased two WD My Passport drives before and they always worked and lasted at least three years, this newer model is no good and I am not buying another WD drive again.

maybe good quality but I not this one
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.not a good one or I am still too new to the pc and accessories world. I will however request repair or new one if I can't get it to work. it rarely is recognized which is frustrating. I normally love WD products but this just may be a bad apple in the bunch

Buyer Beware
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read awful reviews on this product AFTER I purchased it- but the deal breaker was that it wasn't even compatible with my Software- I asked so many questions at the Best Buy Store- the salesperson should have asked me what software I use to make sure I was buying a hard drive that would actually work for me. FAILED GRADE.

USB 3.0…… requires adapter. After WD was no use called Apple who guided me through process to get it up & running. Had error message after WD installation FAILD.

Not so easy to setup
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup was a bit challenging as it took a while for the application to launch. I clicked on the executable file for Mac a few times. Then when I was about to call it quits, it launched.

Failed out of box . . . Rare but ?
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had Great expectations for a Mac formatted external drive, Unfortunately once it was attached it was not recognized by my system. Numerous attempts at reboot ended in failure. I bought this WEstern Digital on the brand’s reputation. WD has never failed me before. Returned the product for a full refund and bought an SSD instead.

CORRUPTED AND LOST FILES
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a photographer and I export all my galleries to this external hard drive. One night it somehow got corrupted and ALL my files are gone. Geek Squad couldn't fix it. Thankfully all the final albums are stored online as well but I had to say goodbye to all my RAWs and almost $300 (trying to recover them and buying a new one). DO NOT PURCHASE. Or if you do make sure you back up your RAWs again. I also only had it for 3 months, and it had zero physical damage to it.

Great compact backup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a backup drive. What is there to say? Well, it's tiny, about the size of a standard playing card. And it's blue- which makes it easy to identify for me (I have more than a few of these type of things floating around). So this does come with software through WD to assist with the backup process, but I decided to use this with my Macbooks' built in time machine for that purpose. And yes, that is Macbooks, plural. As each of them have 500 GB or less of HD space, I partitioned the drive with the Mac's disc utility into two 1 TB drives, labeled for each laptop. Easy peasy. Now I just make a point to hook up to each laptop once every couple of days, and everything works like a charm. The initial backup will take a bit- a couple hours each, for me- but subsequent backups take only a couple of minutes, as long as you don't wait too long in between. The drive itself is small enough to fit easily into the laptop bag, but I keep it in my desk drawer (no point in having a backup if you lose your bag with both it and the computer...). My only quibble- which isn't unique to this drive- is that I wish they would use a standard cable (USB-C, or mini/micro) to connect to the drive, rather than a proprietary connector. I do worry about the cable becoming lost or broken... But really, this is a great option for the price.
