Bought the unit to transfer hundreds of photos from a 10 year old iMac. Decided to just plug the unit into a USB port and next thing there it was on my desktop. Opened it and started dragging files on to it. Considering the number of images the process did not take that long. I have a brick sized WD back up drive which I purchased with the 2012 iMac. Still works, and have never had a problem with it. I heartily recommend this product.

For instance today I had to use disk utility first aid to be able to return it to normal functionality. If it happens again it will have to go. My system is Sequoia 15.5 which is the latest upgrade.

In order to use the drive for macOS you can reformat the drive with macOS supported HFS+J file system by using this link: https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/8200/ Please be informed that reformatting is a data destructive process, please backup the data from the drive before reformatting it.
