Not sold state drive

The reason for my "poor" rating is described below

Unfortunately, after almost three weeks I have been getting the same message that "[the unit] still waiting to make first backup" in so many words.] In the meantime my Mac Time Machine has made and stored a backup almost daily to the Time Machine Tower, and to two other WD drives which are used for the same purpose--additional backup of my Time Machine. Have tried several restores of software on the Passport Ultra, no luck. Have tried to find an explanation on the Web for a "fix". Have tried several suggestions but no luck. My MacBookPro is running MacOS Catalina 10.15.6.

Poor Quality

I found out that a lot of their programs and add-ons are un-needed after an apple tech told me about it. The only encryption needed is the time machine one.

Won't Backup More Than One Time in a Row

It will connect and backup to it once, but it won't backup more than once in a row. I have to eject the drive and reconnect to get it to backup more than once. Very frustrating.

WD will not honor warranty, buyer beware!

They require the warranty request to be submitted on a letter with a government letterhead or a company letterhead, if purchased for personal they do not honor their warranty.

The C cable does not fit the Mac Mini M2

I wasted a lot of time trouble shooting this problem but the so called "Ultra for Mac" cannot click into the Mini C connector and will not power on. It can do it for the 2017 Mac but not the Mini M2!

Does not work with Mojave

I tried to work through the problem with WD tech support but they were not much help. Instructed me to reformat to HFS+, which is the same as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The unit arrives formatted like that. Anyways, if it works for you, congratulations. I'm taking this back to Best Buy and trying another company.

Not Mac compatible

It would not work as external hard drive (read-write). Would only "read" as a backup, could not "write" to the drive like a true external hard drive. I've went back to use LaCie drive for my Mac, still works the best for Mac.

USB C cable didn't fit due to QC issue.

THe replacement drive fid the same. Best Buy did right on this by exchanging it, and unfortunately the replacement drive had the same issue. I am not sure why, but the Windows based drives do not have this issue. Weird.
