So it was a mild impulse purchase. Software ran fine, runs great. I would have spent more for SSD if they had one in stock so, I was stuck paying for a record player... price was fair. Further, why isn't USB 3.0 standard on every device? The question is rhetorical in this venue but nonetheless lets move on.

Since the ports on the laptop are all 3.0 then it made since to go with a 3.0 hard drive. It is powered by the laptop. It is working beautifully.
