What I needed

Sales associate pointed me toward the Passport ultrasound metal. 1 T was sufficient. Easy to use. Backed up and verified with no problem.

The decision to buy this drive was based upon reliable performance over years of service from the same device used at home. The metal case permits greater heat dissipation than a plastic case, which enhances the life span of the 1 TB hard drive. The USB 3 interface reduces transfer times for large amounts of data, as can occur in back up operations. One terabyte is small compared to newer capacity hard drives but Is sufficient for data, unless a large number of pictures and videos are involved. I use a NAS for our home network, but the size is not practical for a college dorm room. Pros: metal case, USB 3, compact size Cons: lack of drive redundancy
