The WD Live Tv hub media Center is great , I have been using it now for almost a year, I installed it and took the time to learn how to use it, I had no problems it plays any media type, I have on my media storage devices to my TV . I would say that in setting up your network please use a gig abit switch for fast speed.

Definitely a step up from previous models!

WD TV Live Media Player is definitely an upgrade from the previous models. The menu system is greatly improved. Ability to customize the view/layout of menus is extremely helpful. Having wi-fi capability built in is probably the most important new feature! It works seamlessly with the rest of the home network. NetFlix, Hulu, YouTube, other video sites are easily accessed and content streamed.

    A terrific product, I'm debating buying a 2nd one

This is a great product. I have a bunch of avi movies and mp3 music files on my server, and found that I was able to access them easily from either Windows file shares or from Linux using NFS over wireless. It connects using HDMI to my amp, and I get video with surround sound on demand. I'm enjoying it very much. The user interface is a bit clunky for accessing network files. I'm hoping they'll upgrade it and issue an update. You have to play with the menus to keep server movies from playing as you scroll down to list them. Also, the documentation could be much more complete.

It delivers what I've purchased it for

I'm pleased with it and going to purchase a second one for my other TV. However, since it crashes sometime (not responding to the Remote Control) it bothers me having to take it from power source in order to hard-reboot it. Another thing missing is the possibility of loading/installing new apps.

Bought this primarily to listen to music from my PC on my stereo system. Works great. Setup up took quite some time but the problem was my network name not being the same on the pc as the laptop (which connected with no problem. Will soon be using it to steam Netflix and Hulu.

    Great with 1 Issue

This works great, even has an Iphone app for a remote if you want. Only has 1 issue. If it encounters a bad file, all other files cannot be played until you do a full reset of the box. If they could fix that, it would be perfect. I guess just make sure you dont have any bad files....

    The best media player, PERIOD!

This box is awesome! It plays virtually any format of video - AVI, MPG, MKV, FLV, ISO, etc... The Services available include Facebook, Hulu Plus, Flingo, Vudu. The newest firmware updates added even more services to the already large selection. WIth the newest firmware, there is also an I-Phone App that turns your phone into a remote for the box. Works quite well, too. Overall, WD is the best media player available!

    DO NOT BUY THIS!

We bought this device very excited based on all the great reviews. The installation is easy-despite there are no verbal instructions all diagrams like IKEA. Our main purpose in buying this device was to be able to use our external hard drive to watch movies on our TV not laptop. Despite our HDD being a WD product TV live won't read it. Only after searching online forums did I find that this device is notoriously slow and unresponsive to many commands via remote. Big design flaw-if the remote isn't working you're stuck. No manual buttons. When you buy this product you only get 30 days of technical support-so pray you get all your issues in within that time frame. Many people may think the above mentioned unresponsiveness may be due to our network wifi. I can understand that when using the apps needing network access (youtube or netflix), however this is also on the main directory menu. Another problem we've encountered is that the larger the HDD the longer it will take to scan it (ours is only 500GB), so while we were waiting for the TV live to scan it (while scanning it, it will not recognize that anything is even plugged in) the unit goes to sleep since it's not actively being used to play media. After trying every button on the remote, as well as holding the power button down for 5 seconds as recommended by the user manual it still didn't wake up. I had to unplug the device. Upon awaking from it's slumber I couldn't eject my HDD because it said there wasn't one, despite both my HDD and the TV live LEDs flashing showing there was a connection. To sum up: - Doesn't read plugged in external HDD - Unresponsive/ extremely slow-even on non-network/wifi commands - Once it goes to sleep-no way to wake it back up - No manual buttons to get it to work when unresponsive to remote (ie asleep). - Only first 30 days from purchase for customer support. This product would be a dream if it actually worked.

    Great for streaming MP4 video

The WDTV Live works well when wired directly to Ethernet, but it is not very reliable streaming video over a Wi-Fi connection. When using Wi-Fi it works best when the unit is close to the router.

I got into the BestBuy and told the tech person what I wanted and what range I wanted to spend. He picked this unit out for me and compared it to another brand for ME to compare. I am happy.

This product [WDTV] has at least met, if not exceeded, all of my expectations. It costs one hundred (American) dollars, right now. It streams HD. It streams HD in 3D. It will also play almost any other file extension that you may have a hankering to throw it's way.

The WD TV Live Media Player is so very easy to use. If you have your own movies, you can actually put them onto the WD TV Live Media Player, and play them. What I really like about the WD TV Live Media Player is that you can connect it to your HD TV and the TV will recognize it. Then when you access the WD TV Live Media Player- you can find your movie(s) and play them. This equipment makes it so much easier to play movies and stream movies as well.

    Missing skip forward back

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought this yesterday and it seems really great. However, it's missing one basic piece of navigation functionality - skip forward/backward. It can only 'scan' FF/RW, choppily (like most players), and only up to 8x. It's only skip forward is 10 minutes! If this is important to you to skip commercials, intros, boring sketches etc. then avoid. If not, then I'd really recommend it. They've been asked to fix the problem on their community site, so you might want to check to see if this has been addressed: http://community.wdc.com/t5/ideas/v1/ideapage/blog-id/streaming_ideas/article-id/487/comment-id/1842 (community.wdc.com)

    Buy something else

I've had this item for quite a while and have been frustrated with it. I bought it to replace a Roku unit and picked it because it had the capability of connecting to my PC (where movies are stored). I bought the wireless USB adapter that was recommended. This system is slow and does not keep the connection to my router... nothing more annoying than first, having problems connecting to the router (which is only about 15' away in the other room (just an average wall in between it) and second, staying connected. It got soooo frustrating I finally bought a Sony Blue Ray player that has all the same capabilities. The BR player is farther away and I've not had one problem connecting or staying connected. Just as a BTW... I had previously posted this review and the MFR commented on it and then the review was deleted by someone. I would not recommend this to anyone unless you are going to hard wire it to your router... but who wants to do that and even then I think it would still be slow to boot and operate.

One of the best streamer on the market. But if your looking to play all types of media files from your computer then WD Live is the best to go with. If your looking for lots of channels and content online go with this.

    Excellent Media Player

I primarily bought this media player because my older WD player (WDAVN00BN) did not recognize external drives above 2TB. As I have many videos/pictures/songs i like to access them at any time, 2TB was just not enough space. Now, with this new media player I am able to enjoy my entire collection without having to switch drives constantly. I am very impressed with this device and recommend it to anyone.
