Did not protect my new computer at ALL!

I'm not a gamer, nor do I have a ton of time to spend surfing the web - I needed it for work, so to have this happen really sucked. Had to spend $149 and over 8 hours with Microsoft Tech Support to return my computer to working shape!

The company you worked with is not Microsoft, it was a third party support group that has scammed you. I would advise immediately contacting your financial institution and reporting them, as well as disputing the charge.

I also got it for a previous computer that had been worked on by the Geek Squad. It worked for a while but after a couple of months it quit working and I was unable to determine the problem. I have used AVG free without problems in the past but I now use McAfee. I'm wary of Webroot but others like it.

A Mac can be infected the same as a PC can and it is a mistake to assume that it cannot. Apple used to say their products do not get infected but they changed that after malware started to be made for those products specifically. We recommend installing Webroot or another Antivirus of your choice immediately.
