Pop ups telling me I needed to update this and that software. One locked the browser up and told me to call an 888 number for help (and don't shut down or else.) Well I couldn't take that anymore, restarted windows, searched for Malwarebytes and downloaded the free trial. There were over 250 unwanted files with a dozen malware, about 4 adware, and 5 Trojan found and quarantined. Webroot left all that. PC is working fine now.

The messages referring you to a 1-888 phone number are caused by what we refer to as a "PUA", or Potentially Unwantable Application which will redirect your Web Browser. In the past 10 years of using Apple laptops I have never once had a problem with viruses on my computers. So I am not so sure this product is necessary. Perhaps if an individual was in an environment or setting where they are more prone to get viruses it would be good, but for myself I have not had need in a virus protector. I have noticed some annoying notifications that come up with it, that also don't seem necessary, just more of a hassle than helpful.

While Windows Defender is a good free, stand alone product, there are some large functions that Webroot has, that Defender does not.
