Inserted headphone jack prevents all audio

Good picture and sound except I’m trying to get my headphone jack for my headphones to work so I don’t have to get up and down to plug in or unplug the headphones constantly. I have to pull the tv out go behind it with a flashlight and plugin and unplug the headphones each time I want to use them (and they’re in a dark and hidden spot). This also causes wear and tear on the headphone jack and could result in inoperable damage in the future. Isn’t there an inexpensive and uncomplicated way I can bypass speaker output, but still hear sound through the headphone jack? I’ve already checked Westinghouse FAQ and there is nothing in there about it. I contacted customer service twice and there was no reply other than look at the FAQ page which has little or nothing about the issue. there is only a quick start guide and no manual with this TV. Am I missing something? Is the headphone jack sound output entirely tied to the TV’s main speakers being on or off? Or does the headphone jack having been inserted preempt any TV audio output from any output port from occurring?
