Whiplash is a great film. This is a personal, semi-autobiographical story told by Damien Chazelle about a jazz student desperately trying to appease his dictatorial teacher. Miles Teller plays Andrew, an introverted, young drummer who wishes to be listed among the greats. JK Simmons masterfully portrays Fletcher, a ruthless teacher hellbent on applying great pressure to create a diamond. There is a pulsating, beating heart to this film as a young man who is pushed beyond his limits is transformed into something horrible and at the same time beautiful. This film is not to be missed.

This is a unique steelbook packaging variant for the terrific movie Whiplash. I should note that the original Blu-ray release from 2015 included a digital copy, which is no longer included with the steelbooks currently shipping. So if digital copies are important to you, be aware of that. Still, I love this steelbook and this film and would recommend it without hesitation.

I rented this from RedBox to check it out and it is just a drop dead fantastic movie. It is well written, superbly acted and a great story. You would not think that a movie about a drummer in a music conservatory would be this gripping. You get caught up in it and it does not let go. It is well worth the price and if you like a good old fashioned movie where nothing blows up and is not riddled with special effects and fight scenes, check this one out. Besides, how can a movie that has Mr. Fantastic, Commissioner Gordon and Supergirl be bad? Enjoy!

Great performances and a story that keeps you wanting more. Very cool steelbook.

A jazz student is driven to achieve perfection through personal goals and an obsessive teacher. Both are on a narrow path that could result in mutual destruction. Great cast, excellent music, and performances equal to the level of intensity needed to achieve greatness as an artist.

Movie was great. Miles Teller is awesome and a surprisingly good drummer.

I left this movie with a range of different emotions. Great performances led by J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller. The way the director shot the music scenes were unique. Many moments were tense, emotional, frustrating, exhilarating, inspiring. Brings up a great debate on far will you go for the thing you truly want, and love, and desire in life? Are you willing to sacrifice it all to strive to be the greatest you can be? What is the fine line in teaching a lesson? How far can one push and one be pushed? Let the debate begin. Superb movie.

I absolutely loved this movie. As a drummer who's gone through middle school, high school, and college band, this movie brought back a lot of memories, both good and bad. The only complaint I could have are the scenes where the lead plays so hard his hands bleed. I've never seen that happen, but oh well. More importantly, J.K. Simmons completely completes this movie, and I loved every second of his performance. For anyone who is a fan of HBO's Oz, Simmons practically gives you Vern Schillinger 2.0. He just blew me away with this one.

Such a great story. Perfect choice of actors. Would recommend.

JK Simmons is scary good as a psycho band director. Must watch!

Having zero knowledge of the base of this movie's premise other then it having something to do with a drummer was all I needed. I was aware that it was looked at for praise when released, but nothing else. The struggles of trying to make it as a Jazz drummer going through the trials of a fiendishly difficult Jazz artists/teacher, to the breaking point and back. The music of this film is classic and honey to the ears. Watched twice just for the movies closing set.

"Whiplash" is a terrific character study of a determined young man who wants to be the best at his interest. The only thing that stands in his way is an abusive and mean teacher who berates him at every chance. This teacher's teaching methods are very unorthodox and one will question if achieving greatness is worth it after seeing what this kid goes through. Ultimately, "Whiplash" is a psychological warfare between student and teacher. I highly recommend the movie to anyone and the blu-Ray picture quality is beautiful.

The movie was a great watch, who knew a movie about music could be so suspenseful! The director definitely knows how to get your attention and keep you on the edge of your seat, anticipating what will unravel within the next couple minutes! cover wise, this steelbook looks gorgeous! I am a sucker for steelbooks! if I see one, its a must have for any movie collector! Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase and the movie itself was executed extremely well. 5/5

I feel the 5 time academy award nominee movie should have won all 5 awards! Way understated movie and I didn't even know of until my wife borrowed it from a friend. I bought this as it's way awesome!! And I had no idea of how good of an actor JK Simmons was (especially for the Farmers commercials) but he not only knows a thing or two, he acts a thing or two!!!!!! And Miles Teller was outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whens Whiplash 2 coming out??????

To date, this is the best Oscar film from last year. I say this as a guy who spent 7 years in band, and 2 in the jazz band in high school. I thought the main characters were outstanding, and the dedication to become the best is evident in this film. JK Simmons deserved his Oscar for best supporting actor. The guy has far more range than what you see in his Farmers commercials (bum ba bumbum bum bum bum). I'd recommend this film to anyone who has been a "band geek" or anyone that just loves really good music.

I wanted to see this movie after the 2015 Oscars, and I'm so glad I did! This is, hands down, one of the best films I've seen in a very long time! J.K. Simmons is amazing to watch, as is Miles Teller. The cinematography is outstanding. My husband (hesitantly) watched it with me on a "lady's choice" night, thinking he wouldn't like it, and after the movie ended, said, "Now how am I gonna top that?!?" Then we proceeded to listen to the soundtrack and read all the trivia on IMDB. SEE THIS MOVIE!!

It’s a virtuoso performance in a movie ABOUT virtuosity. Yes, it explores some meaningful subjects…but not once do you feel preached to. It is too fast paced and dramatic for that. It’s like an extremely intense drama mixed with the wildest sports movie you’ve ever seen. You’re too breathless to think about the themes until after you are done . Oh, any by the way, the final scene of the movie will leave you utterly drained…I’ve not really ever seen anything quite like it.

I enjoyed this movie very much. I’m a sucker for steelbooks
