I found plenty to enjoy in the depictions of how music is made. We are reminded that good Jazz is NOT always simply the result of talented players interacting in a jam session, but rather a carefully coordinated and crafted collaboration. The core of the film's story shows the effects of a music college's teacher imposing emotional and psychological abuse on his students and one percussion student in particular. The viewer is invited to decide if this teacher is blind to his inhumane treatment of his students or is simply a sadist. While that central story is being told, one may find that the high quality of the music resulting from his methods poses a difficult question: is the pursuit of perfection in one's art worth driving others or being driven so very hard? For some fascinating interviews with top-notch drummers, don't miss the bonus material (at least what I found on the Bluray edition).

Amazing steelbook set. Loved the movie steelbook set.

Obviously drama but this was one of the most intense films I have seen in recent years. JK Simmons comes off scarier and more frightening than Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhies combined. A must watch simply for his performance. After watching this film I said to myself, "if this film doesn't win for best supporting actor and best editing I will stop watching movies." Luckily it won for both. Miles Teller should have at least been nominated as well. A cinematography nod would have been nice too.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. It is an upgrade from the standard Blu. Especially the audio. The 4k has Dolby Atmos . The picture quality is a small upgrade. The blacks are darker, which makes the picture more dynamic. The steelbook to me was worth it since I love this movie but it's probably not worth more then 5$ over the standard release

Good movie. I really enjoyed it. Excellent plot.

I belive this is Damien Chazelle's crowning work. Sure, La La Land is more ambitious in scope, has a greater budget and most likely did better in the box office, but whiplash manages to deliver a bigger gut punch than La LanLands tragic- bitter sweet ending. How much is enough? And how far are you willing to sacrifice to become one of the greats?

The audio track on with this movie is incredible, coupled with the sharp picture, you'll be engaged throughout the whole experience. I'm not really a fan of the SteelBooks since the case is different from the standard, but my local BB didn't have the regular copy in stock, so paid a little extra for the SteelBook rather than waiting.

For whatever reason, this version was cheaper than the standard blu ray so I got this solely because of that and was happy to expand my steelbook collection in the process. I recommend this for fans of the movie who want a little more special packaging

Whiplash is, by far, one of the greatest movies made in YEARS! With 3 Oscars up their sleeve, rookie director Damien Chazelle presents us his little 19-days-shooting masterpiece. It's not about jazz, it's not about a drummer, it's about pushing someone to their limits in order to make them the best possible version of themselves. An enjoyable ride within the word of music. Audio is DTS-HD which is a plus. Spanish and French are also DTS-HD, something you don't usually see.

I really like this movie... The acting is intense between student and instructor is INTENSE. Music is great also. I purchased the steelbook in standard HD before deciding to buy again on the 4K disc. Afterwards, I noticed a subtle (but worthwhile) difference visually between the 4K and standard Blu-Ray. (I am not set up for Atmos.)

Apart from large amounts of language and name calling (which plays a huge role in the movie) this movie was great! It captured the competitive nature of life. The story is well written, the lead actors really carry the picture. It's impressive from several standpoints. The playing of the instruments was superb!! I loved it and will watch it many many time. It won the Oscar for best supporting actor. I say again, if you can stand the language, it'is well worth your time!

Whiplash is probably one of my favorite movies from the last decade and I've always liked the climax at the end with the amazing drum solo performance. The steelbook packaging is basic but aesthetically very nice. The cover art looks pretty great compared to the standard edition and I got it for a good deal. Great recommend from me.

I had previously seen this back when the original Blu ray released, and had to have this 4K upgrade as soon as I heard it was on the way. This movie has some intense acting, with a supremely shocking performance from J.K. Simmons. The video quality awesome coupled with the new audio track making the music very immersive. A beautiful steelbook!

I freaking love this movie and dare I say it is a masterclass in tension! One of my favorite Damien Chazelle movies with the music being SO GOOD! Both Miles Teller and J.K Simmons are phenomenal! So glad at least one of them scored an Oscar. Please if you haven’t watched this movie yet, please consider checking out this 4K remaster!

The aesthetics on this are amazing. It has a nice matte finish, the colors pop, and the binding looks excellent on a shelf. The film itself is, of course, quite an experience. Teller and Simmons are remarkable and extremely tangible. If you're looking for a film that dissects the meaning of creative passion, look no further.

LOVE this movie, and it was a great price, but when the movie arrived, I could hear a loose disc inside. I was very annoyed at this, but happy to see the disc fastening clips were in good condition and the disc had no scratches on it. I just would ship another one out if you hear a loose disc and don't want to open it.

Fair warning, the language is colorful (doesn't bother me one bit, but to some folks, it might be borderline too much). Great movie otherwise. I didn't know what to expect and came away pleasantly surprised. Great story, heartwarming without being over the top. It seems almost too simple to say, but the best thing I can think to say about Whiplash is it's a solid movie to sit down to and have everyone in the room entertained. Highly recommend.

I read many reviews on this movie and most of critics gave 5 stars. I was so curious about this movie, since I rarely see a movie of 5 stars from most of critics. The movie goes with tension from the beginning. Relaxed a little before the final scene, and exploded in the last. Actually, I considered seriously I had to replace my home theater system after finishing the movie, since it delivers the amazing beat of drum play. Go and feel this beat.

This Steelbook isn’t the greatest but it is actually pretty good considering how cheap it is. The back and front fold out to make one image and it’s a pretty awesome design, especially the little detail of blood on the bottom which you would understand if you watched the film. The inside is fortunately is not plain and has just an image of a drum which is fine. This only contains the Blu Ray disc which does have disc art (a still image from the film). If you are wondering how the movie is, I consider it a near masterpiece personally. For the price, I would really recommend getting this steelbook

There is so much tension throughout this movie, it's ridiculous. I start by saying that because this movie is a very fresh story and different than most others you will see these days. Through all of this work and conflict, comes a phenomenal story and probably the best post-feeling experience you will have to date. Buying this when it is below the normal market release, I literally got the best buy possible. Kudos. Now you go buy it, or else.
