Simmons was exceptional warranting the Oscar as his performance was out of what you expect from him. Otherwise film faltered at a storyline other than crazy instructor and fame seeking artist.

As a musician I was looking forward to this film and was a bit disappointed. Some things in the story were a bit too over the top, bordering on the ridiculous, while others were very predictable.

This movie was recommended to me and I searched for it. I wasn't impressed...there was no real story behind it. Being a music teacher, I think the teacher went too far.

I shipped this back. The package was different as it did not include the digital copy. Opening the case confirmed that. No code to redeem. So this item is different from what is pictured and described. I’m sure the movie is worth 5/5 stars. Just a shame on Best Buy’s part so giving it 1/5 stars.

This is definitely a movie you can take a pass on.

I purchased this version because it said it came with the digital copy. When I received the movie it did not come with the digital copy as advertised.

Love these movies. 4k transfers look great. If only Best Buy could ship better though.

Rented Whiplash from Redbox and liked it. Wanted to buy to watch over and over. Best Buy had what I wanted. Good price and service.

I did not care for the movie at all, I did not care for the way the man care on with the young teens.

well, I am checking out Best Buy to see when the release date is, so that should dictate what kind of a movie this is. It is absolutely amazing, one that I will watch over and over again. JK Simmons absolutely deserves best supporting actor like he's won for the Golden Globes SAG Awards and hopefully the Oscars

My initial thought going into this movie, was well below expectations, as soon as the story started to unfold and I got to see the characters start to interact with each other. Needless to say, JK Simmons and Miles Teller have an amazing chemistry to them, JK gives the performance of a lifetime. Truly remarkable! Miles' character strives to be the best but meets face first with a brick wall in the form of JKs' character, truly awe inspiring from start to finish, a modern day "David and Goliath" allegory for the Jazz scene. All I can say is "Must Watch"!

"Whiplash" is one of those movies that you hope turns out to be decent, and then you are absolutely shocked at how unique and innovative it is. This story could be about anyone that has ever tried to achieve immortality and greatness. Even though it is about jazz drumming, anyone that loves music will appreciate the soul behind the story, and what it takes to be truly great. A rare film, and one of the best I have seen in decades.

Excellent movie! If you've ever been in a music class either in high school or college, you know a music teacher just like the one J. K. Simmons plays! Simmons plays his character with such intensity, you could cut it with a knife. And it is an intense movie! By the time it's over, you just can't get off of that high intenseness. Excellent acting and script! No wonder it won an Oscar!

This is more of a drama than it is a drummer movie. So drummers don't get hung up on the potential "inaccuracies," rather go with the flow and "groove" with the story. J.K. just killed it in this story... a great overall performance. Got it on sale... if it doesn't sound like your cup of tea, wait a bit, I'm sure it'll drop even lower in the not to distant future.
