I paid $500 for a protection plan, but that just get's me a credit for what I paid for it minus the $500. So now I need to re-buy it for $500 more and I "lost" the $500 from the protection plan. Will look elsewhere in the future. Why are ice machines so hard to make reliable? Also, this machine can be hard to clean. tiny space and many screws to remove.

Whirlpool Icemakers have a long life!

Have used them for years. 2 units in the house and 2 units on the houseboat. After about 15 years I had one fail in the house and one failed on the houseboat. The one on the houseboat that failed was on the top deck exposed to all weather conditions since 2005. Of course, I winterized that unit each year. But even so it took a lot of weather issues for years.

We can't live without an ice machine anymore! Compared to our Scotsman from before, this one is much quieter. Ice is high quality (very clear) and perfectly sized!

It makes perfect clear ice, that complements your mixed drinks or soft drinks. No need to buy the more expensive Kitchenaid version, because it is the same ice maker, just different handles.

Was easy to install & if lasts as long as the first one I will be thrilled! Makes ice like a champ. Make sure you purchase the filter too.

They told me it was in stock when I bought it. This is the 4th machine I have purchased and they have all run well for 4-5 years. Quiet and efficient, but a bit pricy. Unfortunately in this market segment I have not found any better alternatives. I would recommend, but with this understanding.
