The Worst Microwave. Very Disappointed 3X

We have had this microwave since end of 2015 and it's been repaired 3X. We have another cheap microwave ($50) that we bought around the same time and it works like a charm. Most consistent issues are with the motherboard needing to be replaced and the door switched 2X. Warranty did not cover any of the repairs.

Overall easy order, pick up, and install

I found this for sale in newspaper advertisement flyer. I read online reviews which seemed to give positive reviews. After comparing against others, we decided to go with this one since our old microwave died recently and we were using a smaller one from college days. The ordering was simple enough in-store since not available at our local store. The pick-up was fast and notified by email and had a friend help out with the install. The vent line was beefier than our last one and you can tell when the fan is on maximum speed. There is a cute little beep when your food is done. The only minor quibble from my wife was that you have to type the entire time (i.e. 2-0-0 for 2 minutes) whereas our older General Electric over the range only had to push single digit (i.e. 2 for 2 minutes). Not a huge deal breaker but I realized after visiting my parents that the one touch is easier. This is a nice sized microwave and did stick out a little from our cabinets. It was tough to find an exact replacement for dimension since microwaves are getting larger. I am hoping that this lasts for a while. So far, it is working fine and no complaints and food heats up faster than our old microwave and smaller one as backup.

This is my first appliance purchase from best buy (other than electronics) and was very disappointed with it. This microwave came with dent on both the top corners. As it was covered with the plastic wrapper I did not notice it until I install it. Not sure the dents are due to the closeout sale that I got the dented one. Very disappointed with Bestbuy.com. I will never buy huge appliances online with best buy.

I originally purchased a Samsung SMH1816S over the range microwave because I was impressed with their TV's and also wanted to stay all Samsung in the Kitchen for aesthetic reasons (same brand same look). However, I was disappointed by the build quality (flimsy metal, undersized exhaust port, hard to press keys, and loose door), and it made a terrible noise during operation. I wasn't convinced that a higher model Samsung replacement would address the problems I had with the previous, so I decided to try a different brand. There were no reviews for this microwave (WMH53520AS) on the BB website, but there were tons of positive reviews elsewhere, so I decided to take a chance without even seeing it in person, and it did not disappoint. All the shortcomings of the Samsung were addressed. The volume level of the chime is more than adequate for our needs, and the fan works great (we have it externally vented). The only thing on my wishlist is a pause button (there is only a cancel button), shortcuts for quick cooking (1 for 1 min., 2 for 2 min, etc), and a larger intake area/grease filter because the suction is strong (lack of intake seems restricting to flow); other than that, this microwave is perfect. If you are installing it yourself, please be aware that this over the range microwave is very heavy. Moral of my short story: do not choose appliances for brand and look consistency since each manufacture may excel at different appliances.

Good looking microwave but gets overheated when warming more than one item in row. Once it gets in to that state, it make weird sound and food remain cold. Delivery and install was smooth.

This microwave replaced a Kenmore Elite (so could have been a Whirlpool to begin with!) that lasted at least 10 years (was already installed when we bought the house!). The installation was simple, just needed to replace the mounting bracket, which was easy since the old one told me where the studs were. Needed new holes in the top cabinet but the template was easy to use and the holes were perfectly placed. Since installing it we've been VERY pleased with this model. The fan (we vent internally) is powerful, and although a little loud when on HIGH, sure does move a lot of air. The heating aspect is excellent and it does a nice job not leaving cold spots. I really like the low key tones when cooking is completed vs the loud "beep" you get from some models. I saw some complaints that it doesn't have the "press 1 for 1 minute, 2 for 2 minutes etc" quick start, but we just tap the +30secs button a couple of times for the same effect. I happened to snag this on Sale, and feel I got an excellent value for my money. I would look at Whirlpool again based on my experience with this microwave. Time will tell how it holds up.

    Old technology repackaged?

This oven replaced an OTR LG that is far superior to this. I purchased this because of style, new cavity cleaning. I thought it had all the features of a 7 year old LG but it falls far short. 1)Soften/Melt, you MUST scroll through a list of 8 selections to make a choice, then, instead of adjusting the power, it zaps at full power on for so many seconds then off, repeat. This technology is 20 years old. The LG adjusted the power and if you softened one stick of butter, it softened it, not melted the center! 2) It does not have a + or - key allowing you to add time or delete time if needed. My $39 Magic chef has that! Just too much fiddling with buttons...It is not straight forward as the LG was. Once you learned the menu's on the LG it was easy. This one I have to get the cheat sheet out to figure out what I want to do. 3) The soft sounding chime at the end of cooking should be adjustable, it is so faint that if there is a conversation going on while using this, you won't hear it. 4) Because this has a state of the art cleaning surface, which does NOT reflect light well, Whirlpool engineers should have used a bigger wattage bulb to light the interior. It is DARK, almost like having no light at all. The ONE thing that I do like that many reviewers have complained about is the fan/cool air circulation around the magnetron. It keeps it cool unlike the LG which failed prematurely because the magnetron overheated. I can live with the noise as long as I don't have to replace this puppy before an expected 10 years.
