Customers are saying

Customers regard the 2.2 Cu. Ft. Microwave with Sensor Cooking as having a perfect size for most kitchen counters and praise its heating capabilities and ease of installation. However, there are significant concerns about the microwave door's functionality and the overall durability of the appliance, with some users reporting issues with noise levels and display problems. The warranty also received negative feedback. While many appreciate its powerful heating and attractive appearance, potential buyers should carefully consider the reported issues before purchasing.

Lots of power and inside room. I find the control buttons are small, lightly marked, and hard to push.

    Great size, a few issues

I owned a Whirlpool Gold 1200 watt microwave that lasted about 15 years and replaced it with the Whirlpool WMC50522HW 1200W Microwave - 2.2 cu ft - White. Wish they still had the Gold available. Wanted the most power and this countertop is a 16" turntable compared with the 11" turn table Gold model, but same in most respects. ie; sensor cooking and 30 sec add button. I agree with other reviewers that the push button to open the door is cheap and not always functional. The Gold never had a problem with the door button and was more solid and larger, so this is a downgrade. I like some aspects of the new touch pad options such as the ability to custom program up to three timed/power preferences. Also three weight levels for popcorn is a good try, but so far none match the weight of any popular brands I have purchased. The medium setting overcooks a touch, but is better than under cooking the next level down. May have to use a custom program for that one, too bad. Also in this category, the manual gives extensive detail about what food cooks best at each power level (PL) 1 to 10, but no mention of suggested cook time at each level. What is also missing is the time and PL for each of the pre-programmed buttons. For example the Soup button, which I use alot, is not defined in the manual by the power level and related time that is pre-programmed to heat a bowl of soup. These pre-programmed buttons should have this information made available in the user manual, but even Whirlpool customer support has no idea for these engineered levels for each of: popcorn, soup, dinner plate, pizza reheat, frzn entree, beverage, fresh vegetable or potato. So far this new Whirlpool seems to cook hotter than my Gold though both are 1200 watt. Love the large size and it can reheat a 16" pizza for the few occasions that becomes useful, but would like to know what actual settings are used to reheat that pizza. Otherwise it is all trial and error. Generally I am pleased except for the door, but have only had this for one week. To be continued....

Looks great and works very well. Excellent choice ! Only problem was the extra trim kit to mount in wall for $100, cheap plastic, faux stainless.

We are happy with this microwave, especially for the price! What a bargain -- compared to the others. It matches perfectly in the space where our KitchenAid one was. We didn't have to buy another frame kit which was another plus. The only strange this about this microwave is the start and stop buttons: X = STOP and Right triangle = START. Also there are no express buttons except ADD 30 SEC.

    Worst Microwave I’ve Ever Owned

Now that I have been using this Whirlpool Microwave Model: WMC50522 for over two years now, I can say without a doubt that it is the worst microwave I have ever owned. If you buy this microwave you better buy the extended warranty. After only about 18 months of use it started going haywire. In order to get it to actually heat food you have to open and close the door 1-3 times. It will stop running in the middle of a cycle. It will come on and run, not heat, by itself. It is literally possessed. And according to the Whirlpool Appliance folks you cannot get parts for it as they do not repair them. Plus like one of the other reviewers posted, it is very noisy. Though, I would put up with the noise if it actually worked properly. My recommendation, avoid Whirlpool microwaves.

Long Constant Beep for No Reason

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

When I first plugged this unit in, it made a Long Constant Beep...that I could only stop by unplugging the unit. I thought this was a Fluke (just being powered on for the first time) but two days later, I was awoken in the middle of the night by the same Loud Piercing Tone... I jumped out of my bed thinking my house was on fire, only to find out that this Microwave was what was making the Noise and NOT my Smoke Detector. I contacted Whirlpool to ask them what I should do. Whirlpool suggested that I should schedule a Technician to come and Repair it. Since I had only owned it for Two full days, I had a better Idea. I returned it back to the store and purchased something from LG versus dealing with a Whirlpool microwave that "thinks" its a Smoke Detector or a Home Security System. I would NOT recommend this Product.

Shipping was a problem as initial shipment was badly damaged and second microwave installed by contractor had noticeable dent in door. Start and stop buttons too small, but otherwise good microwave that heats very quickly.

I am replacing a kitchen aid 2.2 cu foot microwave with a whirlpool. The price of the whirlpool is cheaper by $200 the Kitchenaid (which is the same company as Whirlpool) failed in 13 months on the display then the door was difficult to open and then small explosions during use (not because I put something in it that I shouldn't) . I freaked out that the measurements online measurements on height didn't appear to match actual measurements. But it turned out ok, I can use the Kitchen aid trim kit with this 2.2 cu ft Whirlpool microwave. YAY! I really doubt that this microwave will last 2 years and am looking into the geek squad program to see if they will replace it if it breaks outside of 1 year. And Whirlpool suppor ABSOLUTELY sucks!

Purchased to replace a 15 year old, earlier model. It is more quiet and more powerful than the predecessor model. Our first one broke the 3rd month. Whirlpool delivered a free replacement in 4 days after I called. The second one is going strong so far. I would not hesitate to purchase again.

    Flawed design.

I used this microwave oven for three years. Then it got stuck and would not shut off and eventually it burned the magnetron. The unit has two thermal switches, one in the magnetron, which failed to turn off the unit. I open the unit and found the relay that controls the magnetron is a cheap relay, 302WP-1AH-C normally used in automotive applications. This relay arcs when switching 120 V AC. I replaced the relay with a solid state relay:25A 3-32VDC to 24-480V AC Solid State Relay. This is the correct design. I was able to find the generic OEM magnetron for $28 at Amazon. I then moved the magnetron thermal switch to the Magnetron case directly. I tested it and if it runs at 100% power for 60 minutes it shuts off which now protects the magnetron as it should. I am now sure with these cheap modifications the oven will work as it should. This is a cheap design and it could be improved with minimal investment. I read there are also some problems with the beeps that will not stop, again, it seems could be also some small switches that are getting stuck. These could also be replaced with smaller solid state switches. Whirlpool used to be designed correctly. I understand that Whirlpool and Mytag belong now to a Chinese company. Hence, it seems they are now making cheaper designs and of course, quality is compromised. I hope this review is passed to Whirlpool so that the company understand Quality has to be considered when making design modifications just to save some cents.

Definitely avoid this unit. It only lasted 2.5years. Have the Total Tech package with Best Buy and they won’t work on this unit since it is a countertop type. Very disappointing.

    Horrible microwave!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We had this microwave for less than 3 years and it went out. Thinking that we needed to replace it with the same thing (or closest one) because it is what was installed and matched our appliances (dumb, I know), we bought another one. It went out in less than 3 weeks. Of course, since it is after the 14 or 15 (whichever it is) days of buying it from Best Buy, we get to deal with the manufacturer in order to get our issue solved. It literally just stopped working out of the blue both times. I read the reviews and did not heed the advice. Horrible product.
