Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the 24" Top Control Built-In Dishwasher with Stainless Steel Tub's quiet operation, cleaning ability, and ease of use. Many appreciate its spacious interior and attractive design, while some users noted issues with the silverware basket and reported concerns about the dishwasher's long cycle times and overall reliability. The top rack also received some negative feedback. Installation, however, was generally considered straightforward.

    A bit disappointing

This dishwasher isn't very reliable. It seems like we need to rinse the dishes to get them clean. Our bowls, which we put on the bottom rack, rarely get clean. We have to soak them after washing, even if we rinse prior. Some of the silverware needs rewashing as well. It's just disappointing since we run the heavy cycle, expecting the dishes will be clean.

    Disappointed over time

We have had this dishwasher for almost a year now. Initially, it seemed okay. It is very quiet, which we like, but the dishwasher does a terrible job of getting the dishes clean. We use jet dry in the rinse agent drawer and have tried different detergents, using different cycles (sensor, normal, etc). We usually rinse our dishes off first before putting them in the dishwasher but are finding that if we don't completely remove any food particles, the food will remain on the dishes after they have been washed. We have used the utensil rack both on the door and in the bottom tray, but the silverware does not come clean either way. I have purposely place items so they will be in direct contact with the spray arms and still they come out dirty. We previously had a whirlpool dishwasher for 20 years and I'm sorry we got rid of that unit - it was better built and did a much better job of cleaning dishes.

I selected this dishwasher because of the stainless steel drum, decent price, decent reviews., and Whirlpool name I purchased this item late December 2018 as part of an appliance update. My dishes were clean but often dried with spots or did not dry completely. As of September 2022, the dishwasher does not dry at all no matter what setting you choose. This is a one person household with small loads 2-3 times per week. At this point, I am sick and tired of appliances lasting only 2-3 years. We have more engineering know-how and more technology in this day and age but it does not matter because manufactures know they make more money by selling us stuff that lasts 3 years instead of 10. Can we at least get 5 years!!

    Absolute garbage, esp with silverware

We got this dishwasher in February to replace an old Maytag model that was not draining properly. While this machine is much quieter and gets the top rack fairly clean, I expected a lot better. This is WORSE at cleaning than our 10+ year old Maytag, and yes we have used the (expensive) recommended cleaning pods. Oftentimes plates come out with crud baked onto them. I'm not talking went in with baked on crud. I'm talking like bits of guacamole get somehow hardened onto the plates. And the silverware? Forget about it. Absolute garbage. I think this may have to do with the two location options for the utensil basket being the door itself or the left-hand wall. Not in the dead center over the rotating arm like older models. You don't even have to crowd stuff in here to have poor performance, although that certainly makes it worse and allows you a severely limited number of utensils per wash. You cannot have more than two pieces per compartment, or about 8-10 pieces per wash. In fact, the dishwasher does you the favor of flinging food particles into the basket if you have it on the door. And it does a horrific job of removing things like peanut butter from knives. (The attached photo is after using a paper towel before loading to wipe off excess peanut butter because we're trying our best here.) This pictured knife was in a compartment by itself, not cupping or touching anything else. You basically use this dishwasher to sterilize. That's it. Have fun hand-washing everything first.

Same component on top rack broke twice

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The axles for the top rack wheels were made out of plastic for the model we received. One side broke about 2 years in and another about 4 years in. Whirlpool must recognize the flaw because replacement parts include metal axles. I see other reviews indicate other owners have experienced the same problem. I don't think we would buy another Whirlpool appliance given the experience. It's unfortunate that what likely constitutes less than $0.05 of savings in materials leads to product failures, added costs for customers, and reputational damage.

Good dishwasher with a fatal flaw

    The dishwasher performed well for about a year when it started misbehaving, not dissolving the detergent pellets or emptying the water. It turned out to be a bad motor. The tech said he has seen a lot of this particular problem. The motor has been redesigned, but he is not certain the problem has been solved. Fortunately, we have another year remaining on our warranty - thank you Costco! I also asked him what the repair would have cost out of warranty; his response was $500 - $600! The bottom line is appliances are being made cheaper and cheaper. It used to be refrigerators would last 20 - 30 years;

Got this washer last week. Have done 2 loads of dishes, with 2 different settings (3-4 hours each washing --- what?). Both times the dishes literally came out dirtier than when i put them in. By that i mean everything had a film and/or food pieces stuck to it, even the water glasses. It also smells bad inside the washer, like whatever was on my dishes wasn't washed away completely. On a less important note, the silverware plastic grid thing that holds them doesn't fit my utensils, the little slots are too narrow for my silverware handles. I will be returning this model. Don't waste your money.

not worth the money paid for it

We bought this dishwasher only 18 months ago and its not worth the money we paid. We have had cheaper models that cleaned way better and didn't need as much maintenance as this one. We already had to spend another $410.00 in having the motor replaced in it!! When calling whirlpool it only has a 1 year warranty and to have a technician come out just to look at it is $150.00. It is so hard to see in the part where you put the jet dry it doesn't tell you when its full or empty and no matter what it always leaves the dishes wet after. Our other dishwasher that was a way cheaper model always cleaned our dishes and never left any food on the dishes unlike this model and we even rinse the dishes beforehand! look for another dishwasher to save yourself money in the long run!

This washer was bought in 2018 and ran well until now. The control panel (with the buttons) are along the top and cannot be accessed while it is washing or locked. We use premium wash pods with Cascade Rinse Aid and use the washer properly. It’s been 12 hours since the wash was complete and the door will not open and the blue light is flashing. This product is a cheap product designed to break down near or after warranty expiration so that It costs $300+ to fix it. Save your money and buy a decent product that is not Whirlpool.

the one and only redeeming quality...

It's very quiet. Hate hate hate everything else. Utensil tray is a flimsy joke... and it's gray, so you can't see the silverware. There is NO PLACE to put large utensils, fortunately I kept the utensil rack out of my old dishwasher and am using that. Top rack spacing is ludicrous. The center row too wide and the two rows on either side of it are too narrow. I find myself just throwing things in the top rack which is frustrating. Need a flashlight to see if the rinse aid dispenser is full. Rinse aid is essential otherwise dishes are still dirty. Am running this dishwasher way more often since it holds about 30% fewer dishes. And it's ugly. But hey, saved 10% when we bought four pieces. Thank goodness the whirlpool refrigerator is fantastic.

Look at other brands, My unit started leaking at the motor assembly, I called Whirlpool and they said sorry out of luck, out of warranty. This unit is just over 2 years old, and the repair cost is almost as much as the cost of the original unit. Will never buy another WP appliance, use to be the best products, and they would stand behind their product. Save your money and buy a cheap unit that you will need to replace in 2 years.

I would not recommend this dishwasher. It is very quiet which is the only redeeming quality. My dishes come out dirtier than they went in. There is always food stuck all over the dishes and inside the glasses. Half the time the silverware is still dirty with food cakes on. The inside of the dishwasher is always wet and it doesn’t seem like things are properly drying. My 20 year old dishwasher worked better than this one.

This dishwasher did not make it 3 years- the computer has gone bad and Whirlpool will not provide any type of service to help and the part that is needed to repair is indefinitely on backorder and after sitting on hold for 40 minutes- I basically have a very large paperweight or a boat anchor. This is my second whirlpool dishwasher in less than 4 years, they seem to develop electronic problem in less than two years, I think it is due to defect in the insulation of the electronic control board which is located in the washer door, it seem that moisture from the tub gets into the door and gradually damages the electronics, the problem is accelerated when heat drying is used often, I am giving up on fixing this one also and moving to another more reputable brand.

    Nothing but problems...

We had a Samsung prior to purchasing this Whirlpool, and what a mistake it was. We've had this product for just over a year now and we've had multiple problems. First, the wheels on the top rack are plastic and broke, so those had to be replaced with steel ones which work much better. Luckily we were still under the manufacturer's warranty when that happened. Now, the soap dispenser just leaks out when you run a wash leaving a puddle of soap at the bottom of the dishwasher without actually cleaning the dishes. I purchased the extended warranty through Best Buy, but now I'm being told there's limitations on the Best Buy warranty. If I have to pay out-of-pocket to fix this I don't think I'll ever buy Whirlpool or purchase appliances from Best Buy again.

I am so unhappy with my choice to buy Whirlpool! I researched dishwashers quite a bit before getting this one. Mine had a leak that I didn’t notice until it was leaking into my basement. I ended up with almost $30,000 in damages! I’m sure that it was rare to have that situation, what really upsets me is that I have tried to work with Whirlpool and gotten no where! I have been paying on the dishwasher for 4 months and don’t even have it any more. Terrible customer service!
