Very disappointed overall
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very disappointed for several reasons. When everything was unpacked, I noticed the air vent on the top of the unit wouldn’t stay up. After waiting the obligatory 4 hours (which gives you plenty of time to attach both hoses to the window attachment, and then get that snug in the window with some foam insulation tape) I turned the AC on. Initially there was a bit of rattling and it spit out the missing (and broken) pieces needed to make the air vent work. Without them the air vent falls closed and the air is just directed vertically up through the remaining air gap. However, it didn’t sound too bad (I had the fan on high) until, that was, the compressor kicked in. Yes, the compressor is a bit louder than I expected, but the worst part is the added noise of the second air fan cooling the compressor and the additional air movement through the air hoses. This makes the AC very noisy overall, and very noticeable when it’s cooling. The following is a direct quotation from the Instruction Manual “In cooling mode, the difference in noise level between the 3 fan speeds is not very noticeable when the compressor is on. Try setting the unit to Fan only mode, you should be able to hear the difference between high and low fan speed settings.” What they’re saying indirectly is that the noise made while the compressor is on is so loud, it drowns out the difference in noise made between low and high fan speeds. The AC is going back because of the broken air vent, but I doubt I could get used to or tolerate the noise level. Interestingly, now sold out online. It does appear to cool well, but I was expecting more for 14,000 BTUs. Hopefully, other’s experiences are better than mine!

dual air ports
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used this unit thru the summer around the clock and yes my electric bill was thru the roof , however the comfort was necessary. The unit is quite large and takes a good chunk of space. The window unit was not sufficient so I called whynter customer service they told me I needed to buy an additional kit at 80 dollars to make it fit my window or I could go to the hardware store and make my own ....just what I didn't want to hear. I WILL NOT buy another whynter product because their customer service is NO good.

Works real good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to install. Very cool and quiet. This is the second air conditioner I have owned and I am very pleased. 2 hose system works good. I never heard of the brand so I was nervous but now I am pleased with my purchase. I ordered from Best buy because it is convenient if I have a problem, I can just take it back to the store. I wouldn't want to try to ship such a large item back to a mail order company.

Excellent Cooling
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just purchased this air conditioner for the second time. My first purchase was in 2021 and the unit has been working great for 3 years. It efficiently cools a 450 square foot room. One of the best features is that it turns itself off when it detects there is no need for AC. I highly recommend this unit.

So far so good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the Frigidaire 9000 BTU single hose unit it created a negative air pressure in my apartment and never really cooled the whole apt. Took it back to Best Buy and they refunded my money with no questions. I then ordered this unit on line at the best buy store the sales guy actually put the order in I was informed it would take 10 to 14 days for delivery. I put the order in on Sunday and when I got home on Tuesday it was on my doorstep. Hooked it up via the you tube video and violaa cold air. All is good now happy today and loved the 2 day delivery.

Cools Down Quick
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very happy with this A/C it cools both my rooms that are 450 sq. ft. I have ceiling fans to assist. I don't have to put in my big A/C every year in my window. I just put in the hoses in the window and when I'm out I remove the hoses out of the window I move them 6 inches from the window to close it.

Absolutely the best purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and I love it. We were getting tired of sweating in the middle of the night during winter time and been researching different portable ACs when we came across this masterpiece. Our nights are a lot better and cooler, we don’t sweat no more during sleep and we absolutely love it.

Save Your "TIME and MONEY" This Product will fail
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have about 35 years of experience in the Computer IT / Electronic Engineering Design, Development and Production Industries. Starting in May of 2014 one of my associates suggested that I try out some of the new Portable AC technologies of which could allow me as a technology consultant to use, test and then recommend to my clients. Myself along with my clients ranging from real-estate owners to large scale warehouse businesses have a common need which is the ability to cool one small room without having to run central air and cool the whole building. Also portable AC(s) can serve as a single room backup in the event of central air failure. I purchased my first Whynter ARC-14S in May 2014 with the expectation of purchasing 3 more at another location if I like the first one. By March of 2015 the first ARC-14S was still performing great so I purchased 3 more (two ARC-14SH and one ARC-12SH). Now In June 2015, the very first one stopped working and considering it was just after the warranty expiration, I decided to replace it rather than try to get it fixed because Whynter's return policy states that you need to do the following: 1. Box it up in the original packaging (if you still have it). 2. Pay two-way shipping if it is over 2 months old ( Labor and Parts are covered) 3. Pay labor if it is out of 1 yr warranty (only compressor is covered) For a busy executive with a $450.00 item this process is not worth it. Shipping will cost $250.00 Now the last straw is that in August of 2015, I purchased and replaced the first one with a ARC-143MX which performed perfect until Sept 24th 2015 when it started to Draw 18 amps / 2250 watts of power from it's dedicated circuit before it shuts itself down. I have high level computer protection and monitoring on all circuits so I get an accurate reading of the electronic environment in regards to any event.

Going strong on its 7th year
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This portable AC unit is a beast-in bulk AND longevity. This is my 7th year using it without issue. I trust the Whynter brand now and when it dies, I will get one of the new inverter hose models from them. I can not tell you how great this has been.

Good Unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.30 days old so far for Dehumidify works great. Just wish it had more setting under dehumidifying. 2 hoses I heard was the way to go so you don't loose your cool air out the window. my windows in the basement are to small for window unit. you should not have this on the same line as a fridge or another a/c unit.

Not pleased. Not what i expected.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was scouring the internet looking for a machine to do it all. Cool, dehumidify, and heat. I read on different sites that this was capable of heating, which was a major draw considering the room its in needs help cooling in the summer and heating in the winter as the central air doesnt keep up in that room. So I bought the machine, just to find out after it came in and got set up that theres no heating option. Why? Because theres two different machines that look exactly the same, and are basically the exact same price depending where you buy it. The only difference is a single letter in the model number, awesome. Well, this machine is also monstrous, its massive and heavy and bulky. If you have a smaller room, good luck finding room for this beast, seriously. The box it came in is totally obliterated from shipping, and trying to send it back doesnt sound pleasant. So here i am, stuck with a huge, super expenisve machine just before winter that doesnt heat at all. Couldnt be any less happy with this purchase.

Don't buy this Item
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this item 5 days ago because previously a owned a similar AC from a different manufacturer that cooled perfectly and I let this new AC sit for over 5 hours (manual said 4 ) before hooking it up. Packaging by the manufacturer was horrendous and falling apart! Product did not seem to be damaged. Everything works except the most important thing NO COOLING. Brings the temperature down maybe 2 degrees when the outside temperature is 65, 70 or 85 no difference. Called Best buy to send it back and they are picking it up tomorrow. When I boxed the unit I noticed it had been leaking a small amount of a greasy substance that I also found on the lower outside part of the unit by the motor (about 10 inches high and 20 inches wide. The unit is useless and I ordered a different brand. I will post my comments on that new purchase in a few days. BTW Best buy immediately took care of the shipping back! Great service Best Buy.
