Customers recognize the ARC-14S portable air conditioner's excellent cooling performance and ease of installation. Many appreciate its energy efficiency, although some find it large and heavy. While some users report that the unit is quite noisy, others find the noise level acceptable. Concerns were also raised regarding the BTU output and the window kit's design.

I was hoping for a unit that would be less cumbersome than a window ac and cool better. I had an old window ac that cooled about 350 sq ft so we needed a bigger one. This Whyntner unit was awkward to install, the tubes to the window were awkward to attach, the unit is pretty.big and noisy and cools about as well as the old one.
All in all it does the job well enough but overflowed once, a problem we didn't have with the window unit, as it didn't evaporate the condensation water well and fast enough.
Since we invested the time, muscle and money we are keeping it as it does the job, but for the money I paid, I would have hoped thisnwpuld have been an upgrade from what we had and make our lives cooler and easier, which it didn't.

Nice AC so far!

We have had this for one summer so far. It's a great AC and one of the few for 500 sq ft plus dual hose - very well priced. The remote is almost useless as you have to be directly in front of the unit for it to work and I wish the display was readable from over a foot away but those are minor complaints. I purchased BB warranty bc portable ACs tend to break but I hope I won't need it.

This was my 3rd portable air conditioner i have owed and it is by far the best. My main reason for buying this brand was because of the energy efficiency which is great but this portable air conditioner is a workhorse. Cools a 650 sq. Ft. area very well even though it's made for 500.

Great A/C for house

Shopped for the most BTU's and dual hose portable A/C to get max cool at the fastest time. This machine does it. Cools down a regular size upstairs bedroom at 100 degrees in just 10 min. Sure it takes up more space than a smaller machine, but I didn't want to fool around saving a $100 bucks or so as I'd rather have it work fast and be comfortable.

There was a learning curve with this unit. We thought we had the temperature set but it wasn’t getting the house cooled. Turns out it was an issue with the remote. It’s still not as cold as the extremely loud window unit it replaced, but does manage to bring the temperature down and we can now hear the TV. It definitely makes noise but you can at least hold a conversation over it.
I DO wish the unit was able to push right up to the wall. The hose it comes with is only so flexible. We had to cut quite a bit of it off to get the unit out of the middle of the room. We have to unhook the unit for security reasons so cutting the tube extremely short wasn’t an option, because it would be very difficult to deal with each time we needed to hook it up.

This will cool a 250-300 sq ft room nicely. In 100+ heat, it cooled a living/dining area of about twice that down to around 78. Not chilly, but better than I thought. The air vents shoot the air up, and not straight out, so if you have high ceilings it may feel like it takes a bit longer to cool down but I honestly don't mind. It's also a two-hose exhaust system, which means not just one but two bulky hoses to vent out the window. But that's a small price to pay for being able to sit in my living room in the middle of the afternoon without sweating.

This air conditioner does cool. The plastic part where you put in the window could be longer. We have vertical windows and need to put an additional piece in order to completely block the hot air from coming in. It's mainly for standard size windows. The noise level is decent, not too loud for an air conditioner.

I love this unit. Definitely large enough for a decent-sized room. This is definitely one of the better machines. Don't settle for a single hose unit.
The plastic window gap filler that the hoses go through leaves a lot to be desired. While a clever bit they don't even come close to sealing up the gaps or fitting very well in vertical position for sideways sliding windows.
Also, the hose openings are fitted too close together. I get it that they want it to fit small windows too but its not good if the intake sucks in the exhaust. This will happen a little because screens block some of the airflow allowing crossover.
Hose attachment is a very poor design unless your goal is to make it never ever come back apart. I can think of so many ways that hoses could have been attached better. Someone was asleep at the wheel when they designed that. Overall I like it enough to make my own wood pieces to better fit the windows I have.

Ice Cold 600 Square Foot Room on a 107 degree day.

So, like you, I researched and YouTubed every A/C and type. Dual hose was a MUST for large rooms in area of the US where it gets extremely hot. This model I had to wait a couple months to finally be back in stock on every website but I knew I needed the Best Buy Warranty, especially in something this expensive. This thing happens to break, like other models do, I can take it right back to the store and get another one.
So, I did curbside pickup and brought this home over 3 weeks ago. I live in the High Desert of a California, that place you pass with Tumbleweeds, on your way to Vegas. It gets up to 120, some days during our worst summers. Well, so far our hottest day while I had this unit was 107 degrees. It kept my almost 600 square foot room nice and COLD, it even turns itself off when it reaches your desired temperature. It has no problem keeping this large room cool and staying that way on the hottest of days and seems to do so with ease; so I'm extremely happy about this purchase.
This was expensive and works as good as the glowing reviews say! And if it takes a poop on me for whatever reason I'll use my warranty and get another one, so the peace of mind with Best Buy Geek Squad added warranty makes me feel safe with my purchase and getting years of use out of this Whynter AC. If you had any doubts, just do it, it's awesome.
Oh and I normally don't write reviews- so yes, these are my own thoughts, no I'm not sponsored, or receiving deals, discounts, or compensation for my review. (I wish LOL.)

This unit cools a space of 600 square feet nicely. The cool air blows out the vent that is on the top of this unit. It is easy to move and place in differnt rooms in the home if needed. There are no water pans to worrie about as it has 2 window hoses that make this unit the best choice from the rest.

I have a 2 story house and my downstairs ac unit went out. I bought the Whynter 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and even in 97 degree temps and 1000 square feet it cools the house. Now that is impressive.

I was hoping for more but it's doing exactly as specs say. Keeping 550-600 ft comfortable. In Fallon Nv and it's been between 89-105 the month of July. Better than the swamp cooler. Haven't got the electric bill yet. I'm happy.

We won't have a permanent window unit, my wife is a CSI and she says they just kick those things in and break in. Needless to say we needed and easy AC that would cool us down. SoCal is sunny like 11 months a year. We've had this unit for a little over 2 years and it doesn't blow as chilly as we'd like, it's still our go to.
Unit cools a medium-size room pretty well and in a larger room using it with a standing fan we were nice and cool. We just bought a second one because it does what we need.

Excellent portable AC. Using it in So. Cal when temps reach 95 or higher. Using it in a room much larger than recommended yet it still cools the room enough to make it pleasant. I use it with additional fans to help circulate the cool air. When used in this large room, it won't get down to the temperature set on the AC, but cools the room enough to be comfortable. Noise level is not a problem. Not as loud as expected from reading other reviews.
