One of my favorite movies I had to upgrade!
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of my favorite musical movies so I had to upgrade to Blu Ray! Although I also like the Johnny Depp version, This is still my all time favorite. Gene Wilder is excellent as Willy Wonka, the seemingly insane chocolatier who sends out five golden tickets to win a lifetime supply of chocolate and a tour of the candy factory, hidden in his candy bars! Now there's a sales promotion you can't beat! Everything seems all right if not a little strange until one by one, the children disappear in a series of candy coated mishaps followed by song and dance numbers by the Oompa Loompas!

A Timeless Classic that Never Gets Old
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has always been a favorite movie of mine. Gene WIlder's timeless performance as the titular candy maker really warms the heart. Based on "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl, this movie tells the story of young Charlie Bucket, who is barely getting by with his family. He ends up getting the opportunity of a lifetime with four other children as he is invited to tour Wonka's amazing chocolate factory. With great performances and musical numbers, this is a fun movie for people of all ages. If you ever want to watch something to make you forget about your troubles for a while, this is a movie to watch.

An undisputed classic
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I saw this was getting a 4K release, I jumped all over it. While it doesn't follow the book as closely as the Tim Burton version attempted to, you at least won't be left feeling uneasy watching Wonka himself and the practical effects are just so much fun to watch. That's not to say the Tim Burton version is bad, but I think they tried too hard to make it as over-the-top as possible and forgot what made this one such a classic. Also, it has Gene Wilder in it, how can you not enjoy it?

A true classic!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I grew up watching this movie, and whenever it comes on TV I can still sit and watch it - it's timeless. Based on Roald Dahl's book, which, of course, would make it a winner (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, James and the Giant Peach, and many more) the story itself is so relevant for the ages and teaches lessons that no one should ever forget. Then there's Gene Wilder as the wacky Willy Wonka - perfectly cast for the role (Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein). It is also a musical. This is a movie for children and adults alike. It's a Blu-ray, which I didn't realize when I purchased it, and all I have is an ~15 year old DVD player, so now it's time to upgrade to a Blu-ray player. A very good excuse to do so.

Hold Your Breath...1.2.3
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This film brings back memories of walking home from school...or just being at school, watching this and being mesmerized by the dreamlike wonder. What if Wonka Candies started up the Golden Ticket contest again? Surely I would like a tour of the Chocolate Factory! That would be pretty neat. Though that didn't really happen, Willy Wonka is the candy man that closed, reopened and shelled 5 golden tickets with the promise to inherit all the chocolate the winners could ever want. This story is perfect for young children, old and partially old. I recommend everyone who lovespecially family friendly musicals and good movies to watch thid.

Classic movie from an icon
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to upgrade my DVD copy to Bluray. This is a great classic comedy movie from the fantastic recently deceased Gene Wilder. Best known (in my mind) for his parts in the legendary Mel Brooks movies Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein (buy them both now, if you don't already own them), the late Mr Wilder had incredible chops as a straight-faced over-the-top comedy actor. Whether teamed with other comedy legends like Harvey Korman and Cleavon Little (Blazing Saddles), or Marty Feldman and Peter Boyle (Young Frankenstein), or in the lead role in this movie, Gene was a stellar talent. RIP, Gene Wilder...

better than the new version
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the classic version of the movie that started it. A lesson is learned about honesty and service. Mr Willy Wonka wants to find a person that will be able to run the factory. So, a contest was held. Find that golden ticket. Several "rich" children find theirs. As for poor Charlie, money was scarce and he and his family work hard for it. At one point, charlie finds a coin and buys 2 candy bars. finds the golden ticket. When entering the factory things seems to change. Spoiled "rich " children get into trouble and are eliminated from the contest. Charlie wins the contest and the family lives happily ever after!

An Everlasting Classic
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Classic 1971 film still touches a soft spot in my nostalgia and satiates the desire to feel like a kid again. Presented in an incredible high definition package, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory sure helps to showcase the mouth watering imagery of chocolate in all it's rich glory. Although not an EXACT adaptation of Roald Dahl's book of the same name, you cannot top the spell binding performance of Gene Wilder in one of his career defining roles!

Good day, sir!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know why Charlie's grandpa chooses to lay in a bed all day when he has perfectly good legs, but I don't care. What I do care about is the awful advice he gives Charlie that leads to hearing "You get nothing!" from Wonka. Thank god Charlie has a head on his shoulders or he would be changing bed pans and stirring laundry for the next decade in a 6 person studio shack.

Dahl may not have liked it, but you will.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Much like how Stephen King hated Kubrick's The Shining, Roald Dahl did not like this movie, which he wrote, based on his beloved 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I see why: in both cases, the things that stick out from both movies and stay with you are not in the book: The Oompa Loompa songs (very different in the book) Slugworth's sneaky plan, Fizzy Lifting Drink, and the way Charlie wins in the end, are in my opinion vast improvements. Also amazing is Gene Wilder's performance. Not like the book, but it's so good that you don't mind.
