A Great Update to a Classic Film

I bought this as my kids' very first introduction to The Wizard of Oz...And it didn't disappoint. The quality of the reproduction is impressive given the age of the original movie. I especially like when Dorothy exits her house and steps into Oz for the first time......Very impressive colors! I haven't had a chance to watch the extras yet but I am looking forward to it and think it's great added value. You really can't go wrong for the price!

I've seen The Wizard of Oz in many iterations over the years, from 35mm film to IMAX digital 3D. I've owned numerous editions of the film over the years. Simply put, this new 4K UHD beats them all in terms of image and sound quality! Moreover, Best Buy's exclusive 4K steelbook has the best cover art of any of the recent home video releases of the film I've seen!

This is one of my favorite classic childhood films of all time. Perfect film for fans of the movie, music, characters, or even the amazing story that no matter where your journey leads you, there is truly no safe relaxing place like home. The 4k picture was very colorful and really brought out certain things not seen in previous versions.

Best Way to Experience A Timeless Classic

The 4k Blu-ray is such a worthwhile upgrade over the 1080p Blu-ray. The colors are so vibrant and lively, and the detail is so rich and clean, and at the same time overall picture retains enough of the film grain so that it doesn't loose it's cinematic luster. Best way so far too experience this timeless classic.

This is a pretty good Blu-ray of the old Wizard of Oz. The picture is pretty clear. The sound is good. The only problem is that Best Buy got it wrong about this being the 75th Anniversary edition. This disc was produced the year before, so 74th year. I have seen the cover of the 75th Anniversary edition and it states on the cover that it is the 75th Anniversary. This copy does not state anywhere that it is the 75th Anniversary edition.

I had only watched this movie a few times, but I love how well it was made, especially for its time. My daughters have recently watched some of the newer adaptations of The Wizard of Oz and love those movies and the characters. With their familiarity of the characters, they enjoyed watching The Wizard of Oz and seeing how it all began. Even though the movie is over 75 years old, it's a timeless classic that people of all ages of all eras can enjoy.

This is one of those must have movies. I was a little worried at first about the condition of the disk. I could feel movement when I moved the case from one position to another. I guess I didn't realize that it was a two disc package. I went from scared (that the case contained a shattered disc to delighted that I had a whole other disc with features (the shake was the center disc attachment)!!! Very happy with this purchase. I bought another for my mother.

This is my all-time favorite movie and not only does it look incredibly gorgeous in 4K, but the steelbook is one of the beautiful ones that Best Buy has ever put out. It was worth waiting for the 80th anniversary for it to be released in 4K. I highly recommend getting this if you are a fan of The Wizard of Oz and Judy Garland.

With the technology available today I'm not terribly surprised to see this movie making another appearance on the shelf. What really makes me happy is the care taken to bring this amazing movie up to current moviewatcher's expectations. I will always remember the classic release but I will be just as glad to pop this in the blu-ray player and watch in the updated format. Great way to introduce new viewers to this classic story!

It is The Wizard Of Oz need I say more? It is only one of the most iconic films in history. Being able to get it in 4k Ultra HD & Blu-Ray both is just a bonus. Also getting the digital copy means that if you have a good wifi connection, You can stream the movie at 4K quality without even having to put a DVD in the player!

What is there to say about The Wizard of Oz that has not been said? It is great for all ages although the youngest of children might be a tad scared by the witch (I was as a kid). It was the first movie in technicolor, so it starts in black and white and moves to color. Great for the small screen, but best if you have a big screen.

The Wizard of Oz is a classic that every household should own. Growing up, the show was televised every Spring, possibly to symbolize the beginning of tornado season, who knows? Later, it was shown in the Fall, and then, it was not shown at all. I finally decided I needed to own my own copy. I can now play it at the beginning of Spring, without commercials, and take breaks as needed without missing a minute. A truly inspirational movie!

Not worth the upgrade over 1080p

My family and I have had every format version of Wizard of Oz through the years with VHS, DVD, blu-ray, and now 4K. It's a must-own timeless classic, everybody knows that. But it seems to have hit its capability ceiling with the 1080p blu-ray and can't be improved with any level of significance beyond that point. I was disappointed with the image quality once Dorothy opened the door to a wall of color in Munchkinland. It's not that the quality is bad, it's just that the quality doesn't look much better than it did on the 1080p blu-ray from a few years ago. MAYBE there's a slight bump in color vibrancy with HDR and a bit more overall clarity. If so, it's minimal. I'm watching it on an LG OLED65C8PUA through a Panasonic DP-UB9000 4K blu-ray player, so it's not because of the tech being used to view it. It's an old movie that can only be improved upon so much, so it can't be faulted for that. The extra features are in standard definition, though, and that feels extremely lazy. At minimum, the extra content should have been 720p. If you don't already own an HD version of Wizard of Oz or are a collector trying to decide if you must own it, I definitely recommend it. But if you already own it on 1080p blu-ray and aren't concerned with owning the latest version, I don't recommend purchasing it. The minimal picture quality improvements don't warrant the "upgrade" purchase. 1080p Wizard of Oz was worth the upgrade over standard definition Wizard of Oz. 4K Wizard of Oz is not worth the upgrade over 1080p Wizard of Oz, though.

The movie is a classic and I won't go into details on the film it self. What I was extremely surprised and happy with was with the actual 3D transition of this film. I was surprised as how much it popped on the screen for being such an old movie. Very happy with this purchase.

If you had the VHS, then the DVD, then was astonished by the Blu-Ray, well hold on to your broomstick, the 4k version will once again amaze you, just like the first time you saw it's transformation from VHS tape, to Blu-Ray. Color, clarity and the resolution will leave just like a house just fell on you.

You heard the expression of people eating "comfort food"....well this classic film is "comfort." I always have warm, safe, happy and youthful memories when viewing this classic movie. I purchased this DVD for a neighbor who told me she had never seen "The Wizard of Oz" I just could not let this be....I was told later, by the neighbor, it was the best movie she had ever seen and was thankful for me introducing the film.

I bought this movie because I always loved it as a little girl. My six year old granddaughter and I always would just sing "We are off to see the wizard" then hum a few notes- she loved it. So when I got this she was excited to see. To my surprise my two year old granddaughter loved it more!!! She never moved during the whole movie. It is great for all ages to watch.
